Hot Cosmetic Procedures for 2015!

COSMETIC and PLASTIC SURGERY TRENDS FOR 2015  Couples are having surgery together...

Some of the hottest procedures of 2014 will continue to grow this year, but there are some new predictions about what will be “in” for 2015. Last year buttock augmentation and neck rejuvenation showed some of the greatest increases. So what is in store for this year? Read on to learn about the trends for 2015.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM… Increasing over 50% in previous years, the popularity of the buttock augmentation will continue to grow. The safest way to improve shape and volume with a buttocks augmentation is from using your own excess body fat. Fat grafting is rising in popularity, but it’s very important to choose a surgeon such as myself, who understands the art of body sculpting and has the surgical skill to achieve each individual’s desired result.

Also, the neck lift and neck liposuction will continue to grow, as people realize that no matter how smooth and wrinkle free the face is, a droopy neck and jowl is a sure tell tale sign of age. Depending on the specific concern about the neck, there are a variety of techniques to smooth, lift and thin out this area and restore a youthful, elegant neck profile.

MORE FOR MEN… Men aren’t missing out on the opportunities that come from looking young and healthy. They are looking for more kinds of procedures ranging from non invasive to plastic surgery. Gynecomastia (male breast reduction) has risen as have facial procedures. Men tend to prefer “in and out” procedures that don’t keep them from productivity, especially line smoothing injectables like Botox, so much that Botox for men has been nicknamed “Brotox.”

DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE MOMS… After sacrificing their body to grow and nurse the miracle of a baby, moms deserve to feel good about themselves. This has led to an increase in Mommy Makeover procedures to help them return to their pre pregnancy body. Mommy Makeovers can restore confidence, the feeling of body normalcy and beauty. This can mean different things for everyone, but usually includes a combination of procedures like a tummy tuck to tighten the stretched out abdomen muscles, liposuction to address baby weight that just won’t go away, and breast augmentation to create a more harmonious upper body.

FILLING IN THE FACE…The effect of volume loss on an aging face is becoming more and more understood by the general population. Facial contouring to restore volume can make a subtle yet significant difference in the youthful appearance. Fillers like Voluma XC are perfect for cheek augmentation that can provide a slight lift to the entire face, even decreasing the appearance of marionette lines.

LUSCIOUS LIPS… This popular treatment will likely remain a top request for 2015. Although, the trend is changing so that more and more requests are for a natural looking fullness rather than the over filled lumpy lips of years past. This more natural lip look can be achieved with (lip augmentation) involving the judicious injection of hyaluronic acid fillers like JuvedermDo this now to look fabulous for Valentine’s Day.

What will your new look be in this new year? If you’d like to discuss any of these popular procedures for 2015 or another more personalized need, please schedule a consultation with me. Visit www.davinciplastic.com.

Love Your Selfie in 2015…Here’s How…

Love Your Selfie in 2015

Have you mastered the art of taking a “selfie” yet? These self portrait photos, taken on cell phones, are over populating the newsfeeds of Facebook and Instagram. With the proliferation of the selfie comes a higher self consciousness of the actual image we portray of ourselves. More now than ever, people see pictures of each other through social media on almost a daily basis.

COSMETIC PROCEDURES DUE TO RISE IN SELFIES… One in three plastic surgeons found an increase in procedure requests due to patients’ social media awareness per a recent poll by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty and hair transplants had increased from 6 to 10% from 2012 to 2013.

SELFIE SPECIALTY SURGERIES… Straight noses, bigger breasts and flatter stomachs are still in high demand. And, plastic surgeons are now being asked to correct imperfections that have been brought to our attention due to “social media selfies.” Posting a nice photo of you wearing your new sky high heels will show off your calves, feet, and ankles. If you’re unhappy with how these look, your concerns can be addressed with a calf augmentation; while trimming the ankle fat with microliposuction or even injections in the toes for nice toe cleavage. Hand makeovers are more in demand so that people can more confidently show off some new baubles on their fingers or wrist.

So do you want to take more selfies that you love in 2015? If so, here are some tips for looking great in these self portraits on social media.

KEEPING IT REAL… A real and natural appearance is the Most people want their selfie to look like themselves, just a more youthful, better version. People want more fine, naturally flawless results to look like the best they can for their age. For some people, this may mean more subtle breast augmentations or nose jobs to correct a slight dip in the bridge.

If you feel like you look tired and older than your age, we can talk about an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) or injections to the tear troughs to brighten and rejuvenate the eyes.
– To correct a thin lipped smile, we can easily plump your pout with hyaluronic injections like Juvederm.

– Voluma XC is great for a cheek augmentation to give the face a mini non surgical lift and to address marionette lines.

– Double chin can be smoothed and tightened with liposuction and a chin lift.

– Get curves in the “right places” with butt and breast augmentations.

– Liposuction and tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) flatten and tighten your midsection so that you can take full body mirror selfies without the belly bulge stealing the show.

HOW TO TAKE A GREAT SELFIE…Here are some tips from the photography experts:

Be yourself, relax and act natural.
Avoid “duck lips” and hand signs.
Slightly angle your face to one side for a slimming effect.
Take the photo from slightly above eye level for a sleek jawline.
Pay attention to what’s in the background.
Natural light is best, but watch the position of the sun since it can cast shadows on the face.

Come in for a consultation so we can discuss how to help you get a selfie you love in 2015. www.davinciplastic.com.

Happy New Year 2015!

Cosmetic Procedures…Still on the rise for all Ages and Stages

Cosmetics Procedures on the Rise for Generation X

Generation X is stimulating the plastic surgery industry. Younger people are having more procedures done earlier rather than waiting for major signs of aging to surface. Many of the innovations of the past 10 years are due to this shift in the age of our clients their preferences for fast recovery from less invasive methods. The focus is on prevention, particularly for the face.

GETTING THE MOST “WORK DONE”…This Gen X age group, 31-45 yrs old, had close to half of last years procedures, which is even more than the Baby Boomers (ages 51 to 64). Looking good is paramount to staying competitive in the corporate world and so these career expectations are driving younger people into our surgery centers in ever rising numbers.

CONSCIOUS WITH KEEPING UP ON SOCIAL STANDARDS…Another influence on the Generation X is of course the perfect image portrayed and perpetuated by Hollywood celebrities. And even more now than ever, especially with the popularity of “selfies” and image sharing websites like Facebook and Instagram, is the pressure to look good on social media. Gen X is hyperaware of their image and they are not hesitant to take advantage of cosmetic procedures to get them the image they want.

NO TIME FOR RECOVERY…GET YOUNGER LOOKING AND GET GOING…These anti aging procedures that Gen Xers are wanting are less invasive and have minimal to no downtime. This makes the injectables like Botox and fillers like Restylane, popular procedures. In the matter of a lunch break, Gen Xers smooth out the beginnings of forehead lines or crows feet with Botox, plump their lips with Restylane, or even get a minim facelift from a check augmentation with Juvederm Voluma XC. Other popular procedures that require more time than a lunch break yet still have minor recoveries are the skin laser treatments, and surgeries with minimal recovery such as blepharoplasty.

LOOKING YOUNG MEANS LOOKING HEALTHY…Mostly, Generation X is all about prevention, customization, and natural results. By viewing cosmetic procedures as part of their health regiment and body “up keep,” they’re maintaining a more youthful appearance longer rather than waiting for a major issue before addressing it. Getting cosmetic procedures is viewed as part of taking care of their body.

So are you part of the Generation X, or if not, do you have their mindset about maintaining your youthfulness before you have major issues to address? If so, come in soon so we can define your best options for a more youthful 2015.

Holiday Cosmetic Surgery…for the look you’ve always wanted!

Beauty Tips from DAVinci Plastic SurgerySeasonal Guide to Cosmetic Surgery

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… for cosmetic surgery. While cosmetic surgery can easily be performed all year long, there are times of year that make it more convenient. This time of year, the winter, is perfect to get the majority of the surgeries on your list. (You added this to your Holiday Wish List already right?) Here is a guide for you when considering the ideal season for you to get the surgery you’ve been wanting.

Winter

Cosmetic surgeries in winter are great because:

  • Cold climates require bulkier clothes, turtlenecks, scarves, and hats.
  • Lots of holidays like Hanukkah, Christmas, New Years, Martin Luther King, and Presidents Day allow for long weekends and time off.
  • Often business is slow so your absence from the work place wouldn’t be as noticeable.
  • You’ve decided to finally get “the look” you’ve always wanted for the New Year!

LIPOSUCTION, TUMMY TUCK, BREAST IMPLANTS… just about any type of cosmetic surgery is great during the winter. The thicker clothing with more coverage conceals any swelling and bruising, and is overall more cozy and comfy for nurturing your healing. It also covers any drastic body changes so it won’t be noticed if your body looks one way today and different tomorrow.

RHINOPLASTY, FACELIFT, BLEPHAROPLASTY, BROW LIFT, LASER RESURFACING… and their after effects like swelling and bruising are discretely covered by hats, scarves, and turtlenecks. It’s also very normal to go darker in your hair color and makeup with the season change, so this can help draw attention away from facial surgery and cover any bruising.

Spring

Spring is a better time for surgery for those who want to focus on being around family and stay visible, in the social scene, during the winter. The “spring cleaning” mindset of getting things done can be an inspiration to get the surgery done that has been on the back of the mind.

BODY CONTOURING, LIPOSUCTION, BREAST AUGMENTATION… cross them off the list and allow your body a full recovery for summer months of beach, more revealing clothes, and bathing suits. New years resolutions for weight loss have a chance to kick in and become a habit so that body contouring can have the best results.

Summer

Unless you want to use your summer vacation time to recover, summer isn’t the ideal time for cosmetic surgery. But, if this is the best time for you then avoid the sun and sweating for a normal healing process… so no you shouldn’t be hanging out poolside while you heal. Dr. Davison’s advanced techniques allow for shorter healing times than with older procedures.

BOTOX, JUVEDERM, RADIESSE, SCULPTRA… are good choices for the summer months. These injectables require little or no down time or recovery. They are in and out and you’re on your way to looking fabulous on your vacation or for those summer parties.

Fall

This is another good time to consider cosmetic surgery. The fall boasts cooler weather that required clothes with more coverage. The back to school routine can provide some predictability that would allow for scheduling a surgery, just in time for the holidays.

But who wants to wait all the way until next fall? The winter season we’re in right now is ideal for any cosmetic procedure. Men and women of all ages and stages in life are taking advantage of holiday breaks to schedule a consultation and then the cosmetic procedure they’ve been wanting to have done.  You can do the same today at www.davinciplastic.com.

Best Wishes,

Dr. Steven Davison

Look Fabulous for the Holidays..Schedule Cosmetic Surgery Now

Schedule  Surgery Now … to be Ready for the Holiday’s

Our social calendars fill up quickly this time of year. Celebrating the holiday season is a fun, festive time, and you want to look great at each of these social appearances, right? If you’re considering cosmetic surgery, you’ll want to keep in mind the recovery time needed for healing. The priority is to be enjoying the holidays to the fullest and not worrying about any bruising or healing that could hold you back.

Here’s a guide on the recovery time, during which you’ll need to rest and/or take off work. It’s better to schedule a little more time than you’ll need and be pleasantly surprised if you recover faster.

Procedures that need at least…

1 week… Breast augmentation, reduction or lift, arm lift (brachioplasty), liposuction, male chest reduction (gynecomastia)           Couples are having surgery together...

2 weeks… brow/forehead lift, facelift, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)

3-4 weeks… tummy tuck, “mommy makeover,” body lift

The recovery time frame can be influenced by your health and habits. Having plastic surgery would be the perfect reason to stop smoking – at least 2 months prior to your surgery. Two weeks prior and after surgery, stop taking anything that enhances bleeding, such as aspirin, Motrin, Vitamin E and some herbs (I’ll provide a full list). You can also do some things before surgery to help recovery go smoothly and to ease your mind going in and coming out of your procedure.

BEFORE SURGERY… try to set up your household to be on autopilot, such as electronic bill paying and have lawn or pool maintenance prescheduled. Stock up on groceries, but also give yourself a break on cooking the first few days and have your favorite restaurant delivery menus handy. Ideally you’ll need to have someone stay with you, at least the first couple days post surgery. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

AFTER SURGERY

  • I know recovery isn’t fun, but think positive and surround yourself with people, music, movies, aromatherapy, etc. that will uplift your spirits.
  • Have some natural bruising recovery gel on hand, such as Arnica Montana and Bromelain…both can help reduce discoloration. Save rubbing Vitamin E on the incisions until after sutures are removed usually within 5-10 days post op.
  • Stay well hydrated (non-alcoholic beverages please) and well nourished with whole foods so your body has nutrients to repair itself. I know you’re going to want convenient and comfort foods, but try to keep greasy or processed foods to a minimum.
  • It’s perfectly fine to do a little moving around after a few days, but avoid all activities after surgery that increase your heart rate and blood pressure for 2 full weeks.
  • Allow yourself time to sleep. When your body is physically at rest it can focus more energy on repairing itself.
  • Follow instructions on caring for your dressings and drains. Call if you have any concerns.
  • Keep your follow up appointment with me (usually within a week) so that we can make sure you’re recovery is on track and I can answer any questions.

You still have time for cosmetic surgery before the holidays, but if surgery is not an option for you, then consider our non surgical options to rejuvenate your face, such as Botox, Juvederm/Voluma, Radiesse, Fat Transfer/Grafting. FACIAL AGING, INJECTABLES/FILLERS vs SURGERY…and the HOLIDAYS

Well, we’ve written tons of material about facial aging and ways to restore youthfulness. That’s because, no matter what we do we will all continue to age…some people simply put, age more gracefully and beautifully than others.

Cosmetic enhancement is all about using procedures, techniques and products to stave off the “signs” of aging or by actually removing lines and wrinkles, sagging skin and more using the right option(s). The main question the past couple of years has been: “Dr. Davison, do I need surgery or can fillers get the job done?” So let’s look at this today:        shutterstock_10125679

FILLERS/INJECTABLES vs SURGERY

First, it’s critical that your surgeon thoroughly understands the complex facial anatomy. Secondly, fillers require much knowledge also. The key is in knowing which filler(s) to use at a given time by knowing what they do and how they work. These simple guidelines remain foundational:

1)    Know when to use fillers – they are excellent to correct initial gauntness from volume loss and the right fillers can restore volume and definition while smoothing out early lines and wrinkles. They work well as long as there is no loose skin.

2)    When to choose surgery – Fillers can offer long lasting results, but if skin elasticity is poor the muscles slip and fillers cannot deal with these issues. Surgery is the right option at this stage. It can effectively deal with loose, sagging skin and reposition relaxed muscles to their more youthful positions.

While nothing replaces good genes, a good surgeon can help guide you in making the correct choices no matter what age or stage you are currently enjoying.

Men and women today, Boomers and Millennials, are choosing to have age defying cosmetic enhancements because they can, and because they want to look as good and youthful as they feel!

FALL IS HERE IN ALL ITS GLORY…and the calendars are filling up with social events for school, work, church, family etc. You can start now and breeze through a hectic season looking vibrant, radiant and healthy. In fact, it’s possible to look up to 10 years younger without surgery…and no one will know except you!

More 2014 Hot Designer Cosmetic Treatments…Truly Age Defying!

A couple blogs ago I talked about 2014 social trends in cosmetic treatments. Please see my January blogs to catch up on those.  This blog covers actual “hot” treatments, both surgical and non surgical as well as new product.  With each passing year, we become more artistic, skilled and experienced.  Today’s plastic surgeons enjoy the benefits of being able to achieve more advanced age defying procedures/treatments that get you truly natural results.

HOT ANTI AGING BEAUTY TRENDS for 2014

1.  Juvederm® Voluma is making it’s “beauty debut” in 2014.  Approved late in 2013 by the FDA, this designer filler will target the cheeks or mid face region to add volume and restore fullness lost due to normal aging.  It will greatly enhance facial symmetry.

We expect more “designer” fillers to enter the US in 2014.  Will keep you up on those!

2.  Fat injections has been rising in popularity the past decade.  I really like and recommend it to my patients because it is natural (your own body fat) and it enables great results.  Fat Grafting or Fat INjections is used primarily to treat facial aging but certainly has proven safe and effective for the hands, and other areas on the body as well.

An increased interest in treatments using your own body fat has surged due to the healing and regenerative potential of “growth factors” etc found in body fat.  More on that as research progresses.  Exciting!

3.  Beautiful Lips…or the new “It” spot in beauty treatment options. Gone is the “trout pout” but here to stay is a well plumped pucker…especially for Valentine’s Day.  Overfilling the lips has been a problem, especially when performed by non expert injectors.

Today’s Fine Art of Lip Enhancement is here to stay.  With advancements in lip augmentation using techniques that work right, honed skills and experience (Expert Injectors), the Fine Art of Lip Enhancement achieves subtle, soft and kissable lips!

4.  Rhinoplasty continues to soar in popularity.  Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) is the most common surgery for both men and women under age 35.  It is the most in demand for men, period.  It is so popular that surgeons have coined it “rhino popularity” and it’s here to stay.

Rhinoplasty is a very difficult, intricate surgery.  No two noses are alike and each person has their own reason for wanting a nose job.  Injury, disease or just not liking the nose you were born with sends people in surges to plastic surgeons across the US.  See my website for detailed info on Rhinoplasty: www.DAVinciplastic.com.

I’m a member of the AAFPRS- American Association of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. This organization maintains stringent standards for members in order to protect you our patients.  I’m proud to part of this elite organization that promotes only the safest, most advanced yet proven medical options available today.  We’re here to employ our skill, artistry and expertise.  Truly, you want to trust your face only to a Facial Plastic Surgeon.

AMERICA’S TOP 5 FITTEST CITIES and Washington, D.C. ranks #2!  Ranking is based upon fitness levels such as an area’s health behaviors, health care acces and community resources that support physical activity.  (American College of Sports Medicine)  Yes we are proud to be part of this community!

Next time I plan to expound upon these new trends.  My goal is to inform, educate and motivate you to be as healthy and youthful as you feel.  We can help you be your very best!

Men and Women experience “change of life” sooner or later.  For women this means estrogen levels decline during menopause causing the skin to sag resulting in fine lines and wrinkles to appear. As collagen and elastin production slows down, these wrinkles become more defined, especially in the forehead due to muscles in motion.  Laser treatments, Botox, Juvederm, Radiesse, Sculptra and other super youth boosters correct various concerns.  www.davinciplastic.com. Also, instead of cell turnover occurring every 26 to 28 days, over 50 women replenish cells on average of every 50 days.  This change alone contributes to duller more sallow looking skin while volume is lost due to decreasing collagen and elastin production. For these and other reasons women (Baby Boomers + Gen X) are lining up for cosmetic procedures as part of their total healthcare program. Women frequently get anti aging cosmetic treatments for:

  • Facial lines and wrinkles
  • Volume loss resulting sunken areas
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Spots – red and brown
  • And many more…

Plastic Surgery to Boost Your Confidence and get the body of your dreams!  That is totally possible today but it should be your decision and your alone based upon good counsel, education and a strong desire to achieve your desired outcomes.  We’re here to help you get and put your best face forward before Christmas!  Give your self a special gift! MEN WANT LASER HAIR REMOVAL   Laser hair removal is one of today’s most requested options for men.  They get hair removed from:

  • Chest,  Back,  Shoulders,  Ears,  Back of Neck,  Hands, Arms
  • Legs,  Buttocks,  Feet,  Under chin,  Cheeks, Sideburns
  • GIVE YOUR MAN the GIFt of LASER HAIR REMOVAL

HOW HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENTS The laser emits a gentle beam of energy that passes through the skin and is absorbed by the hair follicles.  This laser energy disables the hair follicle without touching the tissue (skin) surrounding it.  The laser also has a cooling device that cools the skin as well to prevent discomfort.  Since hair grows in phases, it may take a few treatments to disable all follicles during the growth cycle. Most people achieve permanent results in fewer than six treatments.  SUGAR and HOW IT AFFECTS OUR SKIN I know, I know.  How can we get through the Holiday’s without sampling the cookies, cakes, pies and scrumptious deserts!  Well, we can’t but you need to know the following: American Heart Association says Americans  average up to55 teaspoons of sugar consumption daily – 2 to 4 X’s what we should.

  • Sugar destroys collagen and elastin through“advanced glycation end products (AGE’s)
  • AGE’s result in skin sagging/wrinkles and either
  •  “stable or unstable” collagen production
  • AGE’s deactivate our natural “antioxidants” increasing risk of sun damage and body toxins

WATCH FOR and MINIMIZE HIDDEN SUGARS:  high fructose corn syrup, dextrose, maltose, barley malt etc.  Also, take 1 mg of B1 and B6 daily during party season.  Talk to us about age/damage reversing Retinol products.  REMEMBER our BRILLIANT DISTINCTIONS REWARDS program…for HEALTHY SKIN! www.brilliantdistinctionsprogram.com. treat Yourself and give it as a gift.

ANTI AGING… A PRIMARY CONCERN of GENERATION Y  shutterstock_80224243-1

It’s true, women in the United States aged 25-34 are now beginning to pay more attention to the signs of aging.  They are also actively looking for treatments and products to effectively address their concerns.  Results tell us that 39% of these women understand the importance of starting anti aging treatments early and they are doing so.  They are concerned with skin health such as spots and blotches, oily skin, dry skin and ways to correct these issues.  They also don’t like the early signs of lines and wrinkles and seek ways to prevent them.  Overall,  Gen Y women want to combat aging and are willing to start sooner rather than later.  They are seekers…we have remedies!  Generation Y men are close behind and feel cosmetic procedures are part of their normal health routine and job security.

FILLERS and INJECTABLES AMONG THE TOP ANTI AGING TREATMENTS TODAY

They offer quick results with minimal downtime.  Here’s how we use them:

  • Hyaluronic acid fillers and collagen stimulators for…cheeks, temples and jawline
  • Hyaluronic acid and fat injections to correct nasolabial folds
  • Hyaluronic acid to plump the lips and restore their youthful shape and beauty
  • Neurotoxins (Botox etc) to tone down muscle activity that creates lines/wrinkles
  • Injectable fillers as wrinkle plumpers for a “liquid facelift” and natural looking results
  • Collagen stimulators (Radiesse and Sculptra) to restore long lasting volume and fullness  (often done in combo in fillers)
  • Understanding the complex facial anatomy is key to knowing what to use, how much to use and where to use it.  At DAVinci we are highly skilled and specially trained as expert injectors.   The results are beautiful!

At DAVinci, our main concern is what concerns you!  Come in and let’s chat so we can help you look and feel your very best!  You will be ready for the Holidays if you start now.

PRIMER ON INJECTABLES

shutterstock_91754579A SERIOUS LEVEL OF SKILL IS REQUIRED TO PERFORM INJECTABLE TREATMENTS and to GET BEAUTIFUL, DESIRABLE RESULTS. These are experts and are qualified to give injectable treatments:  Board Certified Plastic Surgeons; Facial Plastic Surgeons, Dermatologists or Oculoplastic Surgeons, specially trained RN’s, CRN’s or PA’s who work directly under a surgeons supervision.  The KEY WORDs to look for in their advertising is:  Specially Trained Expert Injector.   These people have specialized training, are certified in injectables of every kind and have a vast knowledge base of their best uses, the risks involved, their history and much more.

PEOPLE NOT QUALIFIED TO PERFORM INJECTABLE TREATMENTS: include aestheticians, hair stylists, cosmetologists, dentists or medical professionals who have not been specifically trained to use today’s injectables. They are not Expert Injectors.

TRUST YOUR DOCTOR’S OFFICE:  The only place you should get injectable treatments performed is in your doctor’s/surgeon’s office or Medi-Spa within that office under the physician’s direct supervision.  DO NOT GET INJECTABLES AT YOUR LOCAL SPA or SALON!  They are not qualified nor medically equipped for routine injections or for emergencies in cases of injury or health complications.  They are not required to follow medically defined sterility and health standards and they are not supervised by an on site doctor who is responsible, trained and experienced.  HTTP://www.davinciplastic.com.

INJECTABLES DO PREVENT LINES and WRINKLES and LIFT SAGGING SKIN…Today’s injectables are truly amazing and they do achieve results either instantly or gradually and subtly.

BOTOX®  is the well known “denerving agent” used to smooth out existing lines and to prevent future ones.  FDA approved in 2002, Botox works by relaxing/paralyzing the muscles in motion that create smile lines, forehead lines, parentheses between the eyes and Botox, (Botulinum Toxin Type A) has been used therapeutically since the early 1950’s for treating spasms, uncontrollable blinking and  much more and today successfully treats chronic Migraine Headaches, excessive sweating etc. and is a leader in cosmetic anti aging treatments.

HYALURONIC ACIDS:  HA is a naturally occurring body substance that declines with aging.  Similar to a sponge, HA attracts and binds to water to keep the skin hydrated and well contoured.  Hyaluronic acid fills in the spaces between collagen and elastin fibers.  Replacing it with injectable treatments means putting back into your body a substance natural to and recognized by the body…it’s accepted, works well and restores youthfulness!  Juvederm, Perlane and Restylane are top choices to replace depleted Hyaluronic Acid.

COLLAGEN BOOSTERS:  These provide long lasting results while stimulating your own collagen production.  Sculptra offers results often lasting up to 24 months and is excellent for filling in hollow cheeks, under eye hollows, nasolabial folds, thin lips and is used in combination with Restylane e.g. to create smoothness around the eye and tear troughs. RADIESSE also is very popular as a collagen booster and provides long lasting results while your own collagen is renewed.

FAT GRAFTING/FAT INJECTIONS using your own body…when injected into targeted areas, plumps up, restores contour, fills in hollows and rejuvenates an aging face, hollow hands and more.  It’s natural, with no risk of rejection or reaction.  Results are subtle and continue over time.

BOTTOM LINE ON INJECTABLES:  We help you decide your best choices to achieve more volume, lifting, to banish lines and wrinkles and to restore a more youthful look!

READY TO GET STARTED…WE CAN HELP YOU PUT YOUR BEST SELF FORWARD!

BEST TO YOU AND YOURS,

Anti Aging Mini Treatments Are Here To Stay!

Gen X opting for more treatmentsThe Mini treatments idea was born about 20 years ago based upon the needs of younger patients (40ish) who wanted the benefits of cosmetic procedures, who didn’t need full blown treatments such as facelifts, and whose schedule demanded less downtime etc. These are younger Boomers, Generation X and now also includes the Millennials. What we learned back then was:  1) that aging occurs in stages,   2) that younger people usually need less invasive treatments, and that  3) “mini” options could work very well as long as they started early enough (at the first signs of aging) and maintained the results.  Http://www.davinciplastic.com.

Modified versions of traditional procedures being done today are much more refined, than those offered 20 years ago, by virtue of more advanced precision instruments that enable us in achieving totally natural looking results with increased longevitiy.  Yes, smaller surgeries are right for many people, usually those in their 40’s and early 50’s who are seeing visible age related changes.

Here’s the Bottom Line for today’s Mini Treatments chosen by our patients: 1)  look younger faster,  2) less downtime/ shorter recovery,  3) quicker results, 4) smaller incisions, 5) permanent results when possible.

There are many, many people who qualify for and benefit from these  mini procedures.  What surgeons expect from their patients is this:  realistic expectations.

For the next few blogs I want to cover “mini” procedures:  who they’re for and the many benefits.  This will include the Face, nose, eyes, and neck procedures.  So, look for these blogs.  I also want to do a “primer” on injectables to get you up to speed on what’s really involved there today.

MINI PROCEDURES ARE MAINSTREAM TODAY and are as much in demand as Botox, Dysport, Juvederm and our other great fillers.  Let’s start with the face:

Mini Facelifts “refresh” the face by addressing the most common signs of aging like sagging skin in the lower 1/3rd of the face and possibly the upper neck during one procedure. The Benefits include shorter recovery time, shorter incisions/nearly invisible scars and permanent yet subtle improvement.  Limitations include:  inability to effectively correct excessively slack skin and large areas of wrinkles. Longer incisions are required to deal with excessive skin laxity.  True Mini Facelifts correct the underlying structure and loose skin.  Beware of “fake” mini lifts that are superficial only; that claim to be done in under an hour and without anesthesia.  This is not a true facelift and will not achieve desirable results especially in older patients who may need more work than the mini can offer.

BOTTOM LINE:  the Mini Facelift is terrific for many people who opt for it soon enough and who choose a board certified plastic surgeon who is fully trained and experienced in performing facial surgeries.

MINI FACELIFT OVERVIEW:   1) WHO IT’S FOR…those in late 30’s, 40’s or early 50’s with fairly good skin laxity and the first signs of aging in the mid and lower face.  Younger patients have fewer signs.    2) ANESTHESIA:  Local or sedation   3)  LENGTH OF SURGERY:  2-4 hours,   4)  RECOVERY:  some swelling, bruising and general discomfort for a few days.  Resolves on it’s own with rest and oral pain medication.  5) RESULTS: usually last for 5 to 10 years with maintenance.

Hope your summer is going well.  Let’s talk about your concerns and help you get your best face forward!

Best to you and yours,

Steven Davison M.D.

MAY is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month….today is Melanoma Black Monday!

Hard to believe we’re into May already!  So, I must do my annual warning against skin cancer:  May has been designated by many organizations as National Skin Cancer Awareness Month…and that involves letting you know about skin cancers and ways you

Sun protection and sun screen at the beach

Sun Protection

can avoid them.  We do this year after year because:  Melanoma and Non Melanoma  is the most common form of skin cancer in the United States.  For my faithful blog followers, please review this and pass it along to someone who needs this information.

SKIN CANCER FACTS AS THEY ARE:

1)  More than 90% of skin cancer is caused by sun exposure.  2)  Every hour 1 person dies from skin cancer   3)  Skin cancer accounts for more than 50% of all cancers combined   4) Per the American Cancer Association: more than 1 million cases will be diagnosed this year   5)  Skin cancer is most deadly among African Americans, Asians and Latinos   6)  One bad burn during childhood doubles the risk factor   7)  Men are diagnosed with skin cancer more often than women.

2 CATEGORIES:   Highly curable  (basal cell and squamous cell cancers) ……Deadly  (melanomas)

AVOID TANNING BEDS…the new trend among women between 18 to 29 years of age…involves an 8 times greater risk of developing skin cancer. and increased use of tanning beds increased the risk of getting skin cancers.

Skin cancer history is also linked to new skin cancers developing in other areas of the body according to a large study done by Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston  (over 46,000 men and 100K+ women involved in the study) which ran from June 1984 to June 2008.  Nearly 70,000 new cases of skin cancers were diagnosed in these patients with a history of previous skin cancers with the women  being at higher risk than the men.  Bottom line is….both men and women get skin cancers…mostly from excess sun exposure and early diagnosis and treatment is critical to good outcomes.  SEE MY BLOGS FROM MAY 2012, 2011 for more info on skin cancer, risk factors, staying safe and more….

FIVE MORE SUN PROTECTIVE TIPS….  6)  Don’t use sunscreen that has “baked” in your hot car….it’s useless.   7) If you take medications or use OTC pain killers….talk with your Dr. since many of these cause “photosensitivity.”  8) UVA rays penetrate glass…so be aware when sitting by windows during the heat of summer   9)  Don’t count on makeup for protection….you must know what level of protection it offers…and if you need to also use sunscreen    10)  Beach umbrellas block sun from above…but not the glare from below or from the water….choose carefully when setting up for the day.

MOTHER’S DAY….give your Mom or Sweetheart a SPA DAY  or a GIFT COUPON for BOTOX, RADIESSE…JUVEDERM,  LIP AUGMENTATION….  or a procedure she’s been talking about!   Women love these kinds of gifts!   Give a “New Mommy” a SPA DAY….and info about Mommy Makeovers.

Have a great May!
