Five Tips for a Successful Recovery Plan For Plastic Surgery

Once you’ve decided to undergo plastic surgery, it’s time to start preparing for your recovery. Taking care of yourself properly after surgery helps ensure your results turn out exactly how you imagined and keeps you safe and healthy overall.

Below, we touch on just a few steps you can take to get ready for post-surgery recovery. That way, you can undergo your procedure confident that a comfortable, relaxing experience is waiting once you get home.

1. Prepare Your Recovery Spot

Make sure your space is ready for you when you walk in the door after your procedure. Whether your “home base” for recovery is a hotel room with room service at your fingertips, or you’re recovering in your living room or bedroom, having everything you need within easy reach after surgery is essential. You will want to have someone with you for the first 24 hours after surgery as you are coming off of anesthesia and adjusting to pain medication. If you have forgotten anything, your helper can bring it to you.

Some of the things to consider having in your recovery area include:

  • Pillows—extra pillows will help elevate the surgical site or provide additional support. Depending on your procedure, you may have to lie on your back, stomach, or side. Pillows can help ensure you maintain your prescribed position.
  • Medication—both prescription and over-the-counter pain relievers should be on hand.
  • Phone charger—you want to avoid being stuck with no battery left on your phone, especially if you’re alone at any point in your recovery.
  • Books and remote controls—whether you’re binge-watching “Suits” or finally getting to the pile of books next to your bed, make sure your entertainment needs are at your fingertips.
  • Water and snacks—staying hydrated after surgery is necessary for several reasons. It helps flush the last remnants of anesthesia out of your system and carries vital nutrients to the wound site for healing. It also helps stave off constipation, a common side effect of pain medication after surgery.

2. Choose the Right Clothing

From what you wear to your procedure to preparing for your recovery at home, having suitable clothing is crucial to a comfortable recovery. For rhinoplasty and facelift patients, consider button-up tops to ensure you’re not pulling a shirt over your head and bumping your surgical areas.

For body procedures, loose and comfortable clothing is essential. For breast augmentation, button-up shirts are your best bet, as you want a top that doesn’t require you to lift your arms over your head. Soft, elastic waistlines are best for recovery after abdominoplasty or liposuction, as you don’t want tight clothing rubbing against incisions.

3. Fill Prescriptions Before Your Procedure

If possible, fill post-op prescriptions ahead of your surgery. Most surgeons will send in prescriptions for necessary pain medications before your surgery date for this exact purpose. While you’re at the drugstore, pick up any over-the-counter pain relievers and incision care supplies you may need, so that you’re fully prepared for recovery. Once you’re headed home after your procedure, the last thing you want to do is stop and try to navigate a store, looking for supplies.

4. Follow All Pre- and Post-Surgical Instructions

Remember that your surgeon is knowledgeable and experienced, so all of their pre- or post-op instructions come from extensive training and expertise. These instructions are designed to provide you with the smoothest surgery and recovery possible, so make sure you follow them to the letter.

You will receive your instructions well before your surgery. Read them closely and familiarize yourself with them. Doing so will help you know what to expect in the days leading up to your surgery, during the surgery, and in your recovery. The more you know, the better prepared you will be to ensure a comfortable and safe recovery period free of complications.

5. Contact Your Surgeon with Concerns

When it comes to taking care of yourself after plastic surgery, remember that no questions are off-limits. For some people, their aesthetic procedure will be their first surgical experience, so they have no idea what to expect from their recovery. Contact your surgeon’s office if you are concerned about anything you think is unusual or may be worth checking out. They want you to have the most uncomplicated and comfortable recovery possible, so they’re happy to answer your questions.

If you experience a complication, don’t delay treatment. Leaving something unaddressed can lead to further complications and even adversely affect your health and surgical results. Again, following your surgeon’s instructions closely and attending all your follow-up appointments go a long way toward ensuring a problem-free recovery. However, if anything crops up, let your surgeon know immediately.

‘Tis Season for Plastic Surgery

When planning for your plastic surgery there are many factors to consider… time off work, childcare, help around the house, making sure you’re in your healthiest condition, working with a board certified surgeon like myself, etc. should all be on the list. In addition you should schedule for enough recovery time between life events, such as:

  • Weddings
  • Graduations
  • Family reunions
  • Vacations
  • Holidays

However, outside of their personal circumstances and life events, most people may not consider what time of year may be the best. While you can have a successful surgery any time of year, there is an ideal season for most people, depending on where they live. Factors such as heat and sun will aggravate and be a detriment to the healing process unless avoided, which is more difficult in summer months. Healing well also requires rest, which means no outdoor activities or adventures.

So where does that leave most people with an ideal surgery window? Well, if you live anywhere with a season change at all, think about when you spend a lot of time indoors, relaxing by the fireplace… that would be Fall and Winter. A bonus is that the warmer, cozy clothing, along with hats and scarves, easily allows for covering up any bruising, swelling or scars while they heal.

Depending on the surgical procedure, the Fall season window of September and October leaves you with cooler weather and a typically calmer social calendar. Also, the Winter surgery window of January and February puts it after the holiday festivities have calmed down and most people are excited about a fresh look for the New Year.

By the time you’ve been through a complete recovery, the warmer spring weather will be right around the corner. Spring symbolizes a fresh new start, and with it, you’ll be so excited to get out and enjoy because you’ll feel and look great!

Right now is the best time of year to schedule your cosmetic procedure that you’ve always wanted. The cooler weather, slower schedule and comfortable, covering clothing make the Fall and Winter ideal for surgery. I am ready to speak with you about your goals and make a plan for your season of renewal. Visit www.davinciplastic.com to set up your consultation today.

Summer Vacation Surgery

For most people, summer starts shortly after Memorial Day and the beach trips, boating and vacations are highlights of this season. For a number of people, the lull in their industry allows for some time off, and with it, they choose to use their vacation time to get surgery. With some exceptions, such as with my practice, summer can be a dangerous time to get surgery.

Why? There is a very normal turnover in the health care providers of hospitals that have a large component of teaching and training medical students. In May and June, the experienced doctors in training, who’ve typically spent 3 to 6 years in residency, will graduate and move on to other hospitals. During the summer months, they’re replaced with new, inexperienced doctors fresh out of medical school.

This “July Effect” as its known in the medical community, accounts for an increased hospital death and complication rate of up to 34 percent in just the month of July. While its so important for the doctors of the future to gain skills and experience, be aware that you might be a part of their learning journey if you’re choosing a summer surgery at one of these teaching facilities.

You can rest easy if you’re getting your elective surgery at a hospital or surgery center that doesn’t use residents. You will be in my care, with my full attention when you choose any surgical procedure at Davinci Plastic. This means you’ll be in the hands of a Triple Board Certified surgeon with the highest level of training, experience and results.

Have you been wanting to get a body or facial improving procedure that requires a downtime not normally allowed for in the midst of a busy season of life or work? This is a great time to take care of the procedure you’ve wanted, then rest, recover and relax. You won’t have to worry about the “July Effect” in the sense of your healthcare, but your personal care in how you take care of yourself after surgery during the hot summer months like July, will be crucial to a healthy recovery with the best results possible.

Here are some ideas for staying safe during your rest time after summer surgery:

  1. Keep out of the sun. The surgery site will be very delicate. While it’s pink and healing, it will be more susceptible to sunburn even the first several months. The scars can also darken when exposed to the sun too soon. So cover up if you have to go outside and keep any exposure brief.
  2. Stay Cool. This is another reason to stay out of the sun. Any bandages or compression garments will make you feel even warmer than normal. Any sweating will not only be uncomfortable, but increase risk for infection. After surgery, in the sweltering summer months, air conditioning is your friend.
  3. Hydrate, but not in the pool. While drinking water is important all the time, it’s especially helpful after surgery. It helps the body heal and flush toxins. Being dehydrated contributes to many discomforts after surgery, including nausea. But don’t resort to hydrating and cooling off in the pool, ocean or lake. Standing bodies of water can harbor bacteria, so going swimming can increase your risk for infection.

Summer time can provide a great break in between busy seasons of life. Taking the most precautions and putting yourself in the best hands possible will give you the best results. To talk about the results you’re looking for, schedule a consultation at www.davinciplastic.com.

Anti Aging in the Middle…of the Face

Since I just finished writing about the Lower Face, I thought we’d work our way up to the Mid Face and review what we can do to rejuvenate the whole face by working on this often overlooked area. Most people start to notice gravity’s affects on their brows and upper eyelids, but the subtle effect of volume loss and sagging skin in the Mid Face or cheek area can have a ripple effect to simultaneously age the eyes and the lower part of the face.

EFFECTS OF AN AGING MID FACE… Bone loss and fat loss in the cheek area starts to become evident for most people in their 40s. This can show itself as a flattening of the cheeks. The drooping of the mid face can cause a hollowing look under the eyes as the smooth contour from lower eyelids to full elevated cheeks diminishes. The sagging skin also ends up causing nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and more prominent creases around the mouth.

OPTIONS FOR MID FACE REJUVENATION… Depending on what level of bone and fat loss you’re experiencing, the remedies can range from a non invasive to a varying degree of surgical options. During your consultation time, we will be able to determine your goals and which option(s) is best to accomplish them. Here’s an overview of the top options for correcting Mid Face aging:
1. Liquid Face Lift with the hyaluronic acid injectable Juvederm Voluma XC is a painless option that is great for milder cases of Mid Face aging and requires no downtime. This can effectively deliver improvement in cheek volume and youthful contour while minimizing the fine lines around the mouth, such as the nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Results would last about 8 to 12 months.

2. Midface Mini lift is a relatively minor surgery for moderate cases of Mid Face aging. It takes several years off your appearance by restoring youthful elevation and fullness to the cheeks, while smoothing folds and wrinkles in the Mid Face and deeper nasolabial folds. It doesn’t address the lower face issues like a full Face Lift would. Recovery time …to resume work and non strenuous daily activity is usually about a week after surgery.

3. Cheek Augmentation uses an implant to improve the overall look of your face to achieve those full, high cheek bones or it will restore the cheek contour of your youth. The filling and lifting effect in the cheeks will have a gentle pull on the sagging Mid Face skin to also soften or eliminate deep nasolabial folds. Recovery takes about a week, but the results of the beautiful contoured cheeks are permanent.

4. Face Lift is a comprehensive approach to the more severe effects of aging. Depending on the kind of Face Lift, it can address every area of the face from the forehead down to the neck. Face lifts correct fat and bone loss, and sagging skin and muscles to take 10 years off your appearance. You can see the blog series from February for more details on Face Lifts or… visit www.davinciplastic.com.

Tummy Tuck Time

Tummy Tuck Time

With the coming feasts that are part of Thanksgiving and the December holidays, it’s going to be very hard not to put on an extra few pounds this winter season. Many people are already starting behind the curve by not meeting their summer weight loss goals, and will add more pounds to that over the next 2 months.

If that’s you, there’s no reason to be depressed about it. As long as you’re on the journey towards better health (or plan to start in the new year), there’s a solution to help you get the results you desire. A Tummy Tuck could be just the boost you need to get on the right track for the body you want.

WHO GETS A TUMMY TUCK AND WHY… This is one of the most common procedures. As with most elective surgery, it’s for people with generally good health, but can help most anyone who’s struggled to get rid of belly bulges. It could be from stubborn post pregnancy weight that won’t budge, to that extra bit that just won’t go away no matter how much you work out or diet. A Tummy Tuck can:

  • reshape your body to fit comfortably in the clothes you want,
  • relieve back ache from getting rid of extra weight,
  • help boost your energy and self confidence.

WHAT IS A TUMMY TUCK…Formally called an Abdominoplasty, it is a cosmetic surgery that removes excess skin and fat from the abdominal area resulting in a smoother, flatter tummy. It is the “Gold Standard” and surgery of choice for men and women who want to be rid of the tummy rolls, beer belly, and muffin top. Unlike just getting liposuction, a Tummy Tuck removes both the fat and the stretched out skin for a completely smooth abdominal area.

WHERE CAN YOU TUCK… While Abdominoplasty, by name, is focusing on the abdominal area, you can also receive the same type of procedure and benefits on different parts of your body. For example, some other common areas include:

  • hips
  • thighs
  • back
  • bra line
  • buttocks

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME FOR A TUMMY TUCK… recovery from this type of surgery generally takes about 6 weeks, so it’s important to plan for some down time. Some people like to use the time off, they’re already getting for the holidays, others like to start off their “New Year with a New Body.” Every person is different, which is why our time in the consult is so important.

FULL BODY CONTOURING… If you’re looking for a full body lift and tuck, Abdominoplasty can be combined with other procedures to address all your areas of concern. Here are some more options for full body contouring:

  • Liposuction to remove targeted fat deposits.
  • Arm Lifts (Brachiaplasty) to eliminate the hanging, flabby skin under the arm.
  • Breast Augmentation, Reduction and Lifts to create a harmonious upper body balance in breast size and form.
  • Lower Body Lift to remove fat and extra skin, while lifting and reshaping the thighs, lower abs, and buttocks.

So is it your “time for a tummy tuck”? Let’s talk about your body rejuvenating goals. Visit my website www.davinciplastic.com for more info.

Hottest Holiday Gifts…the Gift of Cosmetic Surgery

The Hottest Holiday Gift: Cosmetic Procedures

In years past the hottest, trendiest, most desired holiday gifts would be jewelry, purses or a spa package, but now the bar has been raised. Surveys are showing more and more people want to receive cosmetic procedures as a gift for the holidays. This includes both men and women, invasive and non invasive procedures.

So do you want to make your significant other, close friend or family member smile or squeal in delight this holiday season? Well, this week’s blog will guide you how. shutterstock_92984722

WHO IS THE GIFT FOR…Are you giving a gift to someone who is already an injectables customer? A gift certificate for a non invasive treatment is the perfect way to get them back those results they know they love.

On the other hand, are you giving a gift to someone who’s never mentioned surgery or had any injectable treatments, but has expressed they’re not happy with their aged appearance? A gift certificate for a non invasive procedure can ease them into the world of cosmetic rejuvenation that I offer. This can be the answer to their concerns that maybe they would’ve never bought for themselves, but were secretly curious about.

IN AND OUT FOR A HOLIDAY PICK ME UP…Non invasive injectables have minimal to no downtime or discomfort, offer fairly quick to instant results, and have a reasonable price tag too. You can even consider giving the gift early so the youth restoring results can be enjoyed during all the social events revolving around the holidays and celebrating the new year. These are my top 2 choices:

  1. Botox for Ladies or “Brotox” for Men’s Brow & Eye Area…Relax those deep lines and creases on the forehead and crows feet. This simple botulinum injection is one of the most popular gifts that can make a someone so happy with their quick youth restoring results. No consult beforehand is required so a special box with a bow and gift card inside can be a nice surprise for any guy or gal.
  2. Juvederm for Fuller Lips and Smoother Smile…This is the perfect filler for plush, sensual lips. Ladies love their lips and they will enjoy their instantly fuller look with Juvederm injections. It can also minimize the deep smile lines that crease from the corners of the nose to just past the corners of the mouth in women and men too.

POPULARITY RISING FOR SURGERIES AS HOLIDAY GIFTS… According to some reports, including an ABC News article, giving the gift of cosmetic surgery is up 20% to 35%. Even the cost of bigger surgeries, such as nose jobs, breast augmentation and lipo are being shared with the gift being from multiple family members and friends.

HOW TO GIVE SURGERY AS A GIFT… A consultation is required before any surgery, but that doesn’t have to spoil the surprise. A great way to still make the gift a fun is to give a gift wrapped set of brochures from my office with your hand written note on what they can look forward to.

Give the gift of youth for the holidays and you’ll have a very happy special someone. Let’s talk about how we can make this option easy for you or visit www.DavinciPlastic.com.

Lipomas Removal…Quick Squeeze Method

Lipomas are the most common form of soft tissue tumors and they are formed with adipose (fatty) tissue. Lipomas can form in many shapes, sizes and places on the body and they occur more often during middle age (40 to 60) but they are often diagnosed in children as congenital lipomas. They are soft to the touch, moveable and usually painless. Typically they grow just between the skin and underlying muscle but can also be found in the deeper muscle tissues such as the intermuscular septa, or in organs like the abdominal organs, the oral cavity, the internal auditory canal, the cerebellopontine angle and the thorax. They require treatment by a plastic surgeon for safe, effective removal. Lipomatosis, also called liposis, adiposis or lipomatoza and simply refers to groups of lipomas in one location on the body.

Other names for lipomas (types) include:

  1. Adenolipomas are associated with the sweat glands
  2. Conventional lipomas are the most common type composed of mature white fat
  3. Hibemomas are made up from brown fat
  4. Fibrolipomas are fat and fibrous tissue
  5. Angiolipomas are mostly blood vessels and fat tissues
  6. Myelolipomas are fat and the tissues that make blood vessels
  7. Spindle Cell lipomas are rod shaped, seen mostly in elderly men
  8. Intradermal spindle cell lipomas is most common in women
  9. Pleomorphic lipomas are the various shapes and sizes
  10. Atypical lipomas are composed of a large number of “deeper” fat cells
  11. Neural lipomas are fibrous, fatty tissues
  12. Others include: Proteus Syndrome, Cowden Syndrome caused by PTEN gene mutations, Familial lipodystrophy, Hibernomas and Familial angiolipomatosis.

METHODS OF REMOVAL

Lipoma cases are nearly always referred to a surgeon who is skilled and qualified in their removal.

Typical Treatments:1) endoscope assisted removal: 2) suction assisted removal, 3) minimal incision removal and 4) remote incision lipoma extraction.  These all work and have been used by surgeons for decades to remove lipomas of all types.  But, some of these techniques are tedious and require extra equipment (even though they are advanced treatments) and are not always necessary since a quicker, simpler method is now in use.

I helped pioneer a very simple, safe and effective method that involves a “simple incision and a quick squeeze” to remove lipomas without all the extra instruments used in other methods.

Once surgeons learn the quick squeeze method and start using it, they realize it’s great benefits. It’s safe, quick, simple and effective.

QUICK SQUEEZE LIPOMA REMOVAL

1) The lipoma is identified by palpation and its margins are outlined.  2) The area is then infiltrated with local anesthesia and is prepared and draped in standard fashion.  3) An incision approximately one quarter to one third the diameter of the lipoma is made (carried down to the lipoma capsule).  4) The lipoma is then squeezed out through the incision…without any additional dissection.

LIPOMA STUDY

Involved 140 lipomas removed, in 50 patients, over the life of this study. These lipomas were located on the face, scalp, neck, thorax, back and flanks, hips/pelvis and on both the upper and lower body extremities.  Of the 140 removals, there were only two recurrences, no complications, no revisions.

Simple Incision, Quick Squeeze technique for lipoma removal makes them gone in 30 seconds!

TOP MYTHS about TOP BODY REFINING PROCEDURES…

shutterstock_50309701FLAT, TIGHT, TONED, FLAB FREE…what ever your goal is for your body sculpting treatments, especially for the midsection, knowing what really works and what is not so effective makes a big difference.  There are always “myths” attached to popular procedures whether they are surgical or non surgical.  I want to cover a few of those in this blog to empower your mission in Body Sculpting, Refining, Reshaping…or whatever it may be.  Hands Down the best way to achieve a flat, toned tummy is with a surgical Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty).  Read on!

TOP TUMMY MYTHS:  1)  A Tummy Tuck can make you constipated.  Wrong!  TRUTH: When done properly, a tummy tuck should have no bearing on your digestive tract since no incisions are made near the digestive system.  The only time problems arise is if a large hernia exists in a nearby space.  If so, it should be addressed.  There is always potential for some swelling in the stomach that could temporarily affect the bowels but in most cases, after healing is complete and you are no longer wearing a compression garment, no problems should exist.   2) You can’t have a Tummy Tuck right after a C Section.  TRUTH:  You should never have a Tummy Tuck right after delivery since time is needed for swelling to resolve and extra weight to be lost.  “Too posh to push” was coined when Hollywood celebrities were electing to have C Section deliveries combined with immediate Tummy Tuck surgery.  Bad Idea!  Both surgeries are invasive and require healing time.  Also, during breast feeding hormone levels are elevated and most new moms have water weight to deal with.  Tummy Tuck surgery should be done about six months post delivery.  3)  During a Tummy Tuck the belly button is removed and a brand new one is made.  Wrong!  TRUTH:  The belly button is never removed during a Tummy Tuck, only the loose, excess skin around it is removed (excised). The belly button is attached to a “stalk” that goes deep into the stomach and cannot be removed.  The belly button may be reshaped and repositioned as excess skin is removed.  In this case, the belly button is simply pulled up through the skin once the tummy has been reshaped and excess skin and fat removed and tightening is done.  It’s the original belly button you were born with attached to the tissue stalk you were given in utero.  www.davinciplastic.com.

shutterstock_45617737TOP BREAST MYTHS:  1)  A Breast Lift is the only way to lift the breasts.  Wrong!  TRUTH:  Implants are often used if your skin is in good shape and sagging is minimal. The right implants offer a nice lift, increased breast volume and reshaping.  Surgery is needed when muscles and skin are too relaxed and stretched. Then surgery can tighten and lift muscles to where they belong, excess sagging skin can be removed and the breast lifted to a naturally beautiful position.  2)  After a breast lift, your breasts will stay perky and in a high position forever.  Wrong!  TRUTH:  Nothing is forever and just like the rest of your body, the breasts continue to age and settle even after a surgical breast lift.  However, the breast lift keeps you looking years younger.  3)  Fat Transfers to the breasts makes your breasts immune to weight changes.  Wrong!  TRUTH:  Just like the rest of your body,  the breast weight can fluctuate for life.

WHAT AGE IS TOO OLD for COSMETIC PROCEDURES?  The better question is:  When is it too late?  Sadly many people wait too long and then require invasive procedures…if they had started when younger…NON INVASIVE would work to minimize the visual effects of aging.  More on that in future blogs.

Celebrities, Careers, Body Sculpting and the Lipstick Effect

shutterstock_54896854Body Sculpting is so popular among today’s Boomers, GenXer’s and Millennials.  Social media plays a leading role in driving patients of all ages into surgeon’s offices for invasive and non invasive procedures to sculpt and refine the body of their dreams.  Social Media, FaceBook being a primary source, has proven to dramatically influence people of all ages and from all income levels to have FaceLifts, Chin Augmentations, Nose Jobs, Eyelid/Forehead Lifts, Breast procedures, Arm Lifts, Tummy Tucks…and many more.  See my previous blogs on Body Sculpting for details on what’s involved in Body Refinement and Contouring.

Looking Good on Facebook Spikes a Rise in Plastic Surgery Requests:  Social media is about seeing and being seen. A survey of 752 surgeons revealed a 31% increase in plastic surgery requests from people wanting to look better on Social Media.  Procedures most requested were:  Botox, Rhinoplasty, FaceLifts, ArmLifts (Brachiaplasty) and Breast Augmentation.

shutterstock_88823152-1EXECUTIVES, CAREERS and PLASTIC SURGERY PROCEDURES…We live in a very visual world today and this affects even careers.  A colleague of mine, from Manhattan, sees a lot of men and women executives and high profile individuals who are in the public eye constantly.  Their pictures are taken constantly…and they are expected to always look good!  YouTube, Facebook, HD Television and public appearances demand they look their absolute best.  These people previously focused mainly on the face…but now are into Body Sculpting as well. They get paid more to look great!

CELEBRITIES CHOICES INFLUENCE US!  We learned from the “Celebs” how to defy aging by employing anti aging treatments. The key is to start early (at the first sign of tiny facial lines, etc.) and to always maintain in order to always look about 10 years younger.  A few of today’s celebrities have heavily influenced how people want to look.

·      Kate Middleton’s Nose is the nose of choice among the World’s female population

·      Cheryl Cole’s Dimples…well those are hard to copy

·      Robert Pattison’s jaw is the envy of scores of men

·      Brit Jude Law has the most requested nose for men

·      First Lady Michelle Obama has the most admired arms causing a spike in requests for Upper Arm Lifts (Brachiaplasty)

·      And the list goes on………….

SCULPTED BODIES and the LIPSTICK EFFECT…The economy today has also driven people in for cosmetic procedures.  We have developed a “collective vanity” per some analysts, but not  according to the younger generations today who consider looking good to be important to overall good health.  In fact,  they budget for cosmetic procedures as part of their health regimen. So they come for FaceLifts and Body Sculpting regularly.  Those who cannot afford those options choose less expensive anti aging treatments such as Botox, Injectable Fillers, microdermabrasion, chemical peels and others to reduce the visuals of aging.  This is called the “Lipstick Effect.”  We cut back on big ticket spending and opt for the “injection effect” to stave off surgery a bit longer and to allow the economy to improve.  We also indulge a bit and buy that cologne, perfume or special lipstick we’ve been wanting!

MOST POPULAR BODY CONTOURING/REFINING OPTIONS: Liposuction, Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty), Lower Body Lift, Mommy Makeover, Daddy DoOver, Thigh Lift, Cellulite Treatments, Buttock Augmentation, Rhinoplasty (Nose Jobs) FaceLifts, Brest Augmentation, Breast Reduction, Breast Lift, Labiaplasty (FemGen for V Zone Rejuvenation)…and more.  See my website: www.davinciplastic.com.

Well, Winter is still blasting away…but Spring will come!  Are you ready for all the events?  Bikini…Beach Season will be here soon.

2014 Trends for Aging Beautifully and Youthfully

shutterstock_16324468BEAUTIFUL, YOUTHFUL AGING in 2014

Welcome to 2014, the age when 50 seems to be the new 30.  No, we can’t stop the aging process but there are a host of things each of us can do to enjoy the journey while turning back the clock and maintaining a “more youthful aging experience.” Each year, Americans spend billions of dollars on preventive health and anti aging beauty treatments.

TIPS for AGING WELL in 2014

1)   Be practical…acceptance is at the core of aging well.  Authentic, aesthetic beauty embraces realistic goals.  This means at age 50 you can’t and should not try to look 20 again.  Today’s age defying options successfully recapture at least 10 years of youth…then you can always look 10 years younger as you continue to age.

2)   Live in the Moment and remain grateful for each day.

3)   Focus on the person you are, be yourself and be your best every day.

4)   Be Authentic by keeping it real.  Benjamin Franklin said we cannot control what happens to us but we can control how we respond.

5)   Laugh often because it keeps your soul young

6)   Get Creative.  It’s proven that exercising the right brain into the golden/bonus years keeps life fun, fresh and full of excitement.

7)   Enjoy Meditation it relaxes mentally and physically.

8)   Keep Love Alive.  If you’re married act /live as though you’re dating your spouse.  If you’re single go mingle.

9)   Find Your Passion by finding ways to play and laugh daily.

10)                  Be Healthy to ensure natural beauty.

11)                   Build Meaningful Relationships based on honesty, respect, trust, love, common goals, appreciation and togetherness.

12)                  Be Grateful.  My November blogs touched on the many benefits of gratefulness and the health and power it produces in your life.

THE BEAUTY GAP is CLOSING

MEN WANT IN

Just for men salons are popping up across the Nation and globally.  Men want in.  We’ve seen a growing trend for men seeking in and out cosmetic procedures to win their war on aging and keep them competitive in their careers and simply because they want to look good.

ECONOMICS of BEAUTY, ANTI AGING OPTIONS

The up and coming Generation sees anti aging procedures through the same lens as regular healthcare.  So, they include it in their annual budget and regularly seek  the latest, greatest options.  Beauty Options Economics is here to stay.

CULTURAL EMPHASIS ON YOUTH and BEAUTY

Food, glorious, comforting and yummy food is all around us from now until after New Years.  Here are 11 choices that really work to inhibit cellulite, lines and wrinkles while adding positive, living nutrients to your diet.

Look for these healthy, life giving choices:

·      Pineapple is loaded with potassium, Vitamin C and bromelain to increase circulation and fight inflammation

·      Water cannot be overstated!  It is as important as food.  Water hydrates the body, plumps the skin and releases stored toxins

·      Asparagus strengthens the veins and capillaries, normalizes circulation, acts as a diuretic to flush out toxins

·      Green Tea is rich in “catechins” to prevent collagen breakdown for strong, firm skin

·     Sunflower seeds are antioxidant rich, strengthen weak tissues and are tasty

·      Chili Peppers increase body heat internally to burn fat faster

·      Bananas are a great source for potassium, B6 and magnesium which strengthens blood vessels and increases circulation

·      Broccoli contains ALA (alpha lipoic acids), high in selenium and calcium to reduce collagen hardening

·      Citrus is a great source for Vitamin C, methyoxylated bio flavonoids to increase circulation and strengthen capillaries

·      Oily Fish e.g. Salmon, sardines, tuna, trout and bass etc. are low in fat and rich in vitamins, minerals and EFA’s to increase circulation

Pears are wonderful as a detoxifier and are high in fiber and potassium

BEAUTIFUL LIPS and 6 Ways to to Glow-n-Go:  Botox, Botox and Fillers, Microdermabrasion, IPL skin resurfacing and others are top choices.  shutterstock_2966011

Everyone likes to pucker up from time to time but aging, smoking, diet, loss of collagen and elastin and more can cause those tiny vertical lines to develop across the top of your upper lip.  These lines make you look older and cause “lipstick bleed.”  Use these tips to look your best and have gorgeous lips!  See: www.davinciplastic.com.

1)   Stop smoking to eliminate the continual pursing of the lips and slow the loss of collagen around your mouth.

2)   Moisturize and Exfoliate to correct dry lips caused by the sun and environment.  Use a daily “beauty balm” that includes honey or hyaluronic acid.  Also, exfoliate the old skin weekly.

3)   Use Nude shades to complement your skin tone…darker tones amplify lines and wrinkles.

4)   Resurface the Skin.   We offer age defying, youth boosting options such as laser treatments, dermabrasion, chemical peels to eliminate those unwelcome lines and uneven skin tones

5)   Fill in Lines using Injectable Fillers for fabulous, natural looking results that smooth out and plump up the right areas for a sexy, healthy look.  Only choose a Board certified Surgeon to perform injectable facial fillers.  We are specially trained in the complex facial anatomy and know the precise doses needed to avoid overfilling and “duck lips.”

SLEEPING BEAUTY a Twilight Sleep for Painless Botox®, Juvederm, Radiesse, Sculptra and much more!

SLEEPING BEAUTY

You go to sleep relaxed and comfortable and wake up Beautiful!      422034_361059640591795_1455869254_n

Many of my patients love the many age-defying procedures I can offer them today, and even though Nora and I are specially trained and certified expert injectors, there is still some discomfort with an injection, period!  My patients hate the discomfort that goes along with many of the treatments I offer, such as Juvederm, Botox, Sculptra and Radiesse injectables. There is a remedy for this too…read on.

SLEEPING BEAUTY offers TOTAL COMFORT, TOTAL RELAXATION

I began offering “sleeping beauty” twilight sleep option to my patients a few years ago.  It means you are totally relaxed and comfortable during your entire procedure.

TWILIGHT SLEEP is safe, simple, painless and relaxing!

Performed in our accredited Operating Room, Twilight sleep, or light sedation, involves an IV in the back of the hand, which puts you into a relaxed state, without the risks associated with general anesthesia.  This allows for a faster recovery since you breathe on your own during the procedure, and you can wake up quickly without that “hung over” feeling. When you wake up, like Sleeping Beauty in the Fairy Tale story…you really do feel rejuvenated and beautiful!

SLEEPING BEAUTY is THE SEDATION OF CHOICE TODAY!

Now that it’s been used for a few years and is tried and proven safe and effective,  Sleeping Beauty sedation is the sedation of choice today and is used not only for injections, but for other simple cosmetic procedures as well.  Be sure to request it for your next treatment.

ANTI AGING… A PRIMARY CONCERN of GENERATION Y  shutterstock_80224243-1

It’s true, women in the United States aged 25-34 are now beginning to pay more attention to the signs of aging.  They are also actively looking for treatments and products to effectively address their concerns.  Results tell us that 39% of these women understand the importance of starting anti aging treatments early and they are doing so.  They are concerned with skin health such as spots and blotches, oily skin, dry skin and ways to correct these issues.  They also don’t like the early signs of lines and wrinkles and seek ways to prevent them.  Overall,  Gen Y women want to combat aging and are willing to start sooner rather than later.  They are seekers…we have remedies!  Generation Y men are close behind and feel cosmetic procedures are part of their normal health routine and job security.

FILLERS and INJECTABLES AMONG THE TOP ANTI AGING TREATMENTS TODAY

They offer quick results with minimal downtime.  Here’s how we use them:

  • Hyaluronic acid fillers and collagen stimulators for…cheeks, temples and jawline
  • Hyaluronic acid and fat injections to correct nasolabial folds
  • Hyaluronic acid to plump the lips and restore their youthful shape and beauty
  • Neurotoxins (Botox etc) to tone down muscle activity that creates lines/wrinkles
  • Injectable fillers as wrinkle plumpers for a “liquid facelift” and natural looking results
  • Collagen stimulators (Radiesse and Sculptra) to restore long lasting volume and fullness  (often done in combo in fillers)
  • Understanding the complex facial anatomy is key to knowing what to use, how much to use and where to use it.  At DAVinci we are highly skilled and specially trained as expert injectors.   The results are beautiful!

At DAVinci, our main concern is what concerns you!  Come in and let’s chat so we can help you look and feel your very best!  You will be ready for the Holidays if you start now.

Best to you and yours,
