Tired of Looking Tired? Learn How Can Blepharoplasty Can Rejuvenate Your Entire Face

3 Minute Read:

The eyes are said to be the windows into the soul, and they are often the first thing people will notice when looking at your face. Improving the area that surrounds your eyes with blepharoplasty can dramatically affect your appearance, making your face look younger and more symmetrical.

What Happens When Your Eye Area Starts to Age?

Although a relatively small facial feature, the eyes hold significant importance to how you are presented to the world. Your eyes express your emotions — good or bad — and they allow others to truly see you.

Unfortunately, your beautiful eyes are impacted by the surrounding eyelid skin, which is among the thinnest on the face and prone to damage from aging, the sun, and lifestyle factors, like smoking.

With this damage comes sagging, hooded upper eyelids and dark bags beneath the eyes, similar to the look you get when you’ve had a terrible night’s sleep.

Since no one wants to look tired and stressed consistently, many turn to plastic surgery. Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids to help reverse the laxity around the eyes and eradicate the unwanted haggard appearance.

And once the eyes are rejuvenated, most patients notice an entire reawakening of their facial appearance.

What Are the Benefits of Eyelid Surgery?

Blepharoplasty improves and refreshes much more than just your eyes; it impacts your entire face and allows you to project a greater range of emotions — after all, many of your emotions are shown through your eyes.

This surgery not only allows you to physically express yourself more easily, but it can also improve your range of vision (as upper-eyelid hooding can essentially act as a blind spot) and improve facial symmetry.

Eyelid Aging and Facial Symmetry

The skin around the eyes is thin; therefore, it often shows visible aging much sooner than other areas of the face, such as the midface or lower face. This eye aging can create an unbalanced facial contour, which can draw an onlooker’s gaze to your eyes.

By choosing upper and lower blepharoplasty, you can restore a symmetrical, balanced, and younger-looking appearance. You may also find that your confidence and self-esteem improve as you feel better about your appearance after surgery.

What Does Eyelid Surgery Involve?

During a blepharoplasty procedure, Dr. Davison or Dr. Pinell will remove skin from either the above or below your eyelids. This will allow the area to be tightened, which will help improve upper eyelid hooding, lower eyelid bags, and wrinkles at the corners of the eyes.

Many people develop what is known as double eyelids as they age; eyelid surgery will allow you to have excess skin removed. You can also have laser treatment or an injectable neuromodulator (like BOTOX® Cosmetic) to help improve your appearance in addition to the surgery.

What Is the Recovery Time for Eyelid Surgery Like?

Recovery from blepharoplasty is likely to take a few weeks. You may find that your vision is slightly blurry after surgery, but this will pass quickly.

You will need to return to DAVinci Plastic Surgery to have the stitches removed during the first week. Ensure that you rest your eyes as much as possible for the first week by avoiding reading, watching TV, or doing close-up work.
