This liposuction procedure can make your face and neck look significantly thinner – like you’ve lost a lot of weight – and it can help minimize a receding chin.
Submental Liposuction – also referred to as Submentum Liposuction and Facial Liposuction effectively deals with the heavy neck and double chin. Dr. Davison and Dr. Pinell can do this solo or it can be combined with a Facelift, Necklift. The fat that is harvested can be used in the face to fill in grooves, minimize lines and plump up the lips that have become thin and lost their shape over time. Since there is little discomfort and bruising – your surgeon can perform your procedure on Friday and you could return to work on Monday.
Submental Liposuction is not a weight-loss alternative – it is a treatment for pockets of fat under the chin – resulting from heredity or aging – that are unaffected by diet and exercise. If you are unhappy about your double chin and/or have a heavy neck, are close to a healthy body weight, are in good general health and have realistic expectations – you could be an ideal candidate for Submental Liposuction surgery. The better your skin tone and elasticity – the better your results will be.
The initial consultation with your surgeon is critical! It should always be face to face with your surgeon during which time he/she listens closely to your concerns. Dr. Davison and Dr. Pinell believe this time spent with you is critical. It is during the consultation that he comes to fully understand your concerns, evaluates them correctly and is then able to make the recommendations and develop the surgery/treatment plan that is right for you. Dr. Davison and Dr. Pinell invest the time – to sit down and talk to you face-to-face.
Dr. Davison and Dr. Pinell use the most advanced – safest – techniques and technology available today. This includes tumescent and wet techniques that ensure more patient comfort and less blood loss. After you are anesthetized and completely comfortable, your surgeon will make the incision(s) and work through these to remove excess fat and to sculpt the area(s) involved. The cannula is a small tube used to loosen the fat and a vacuum attached to the cannula safely suctions it from the pockets and bulges. For small, localized areas such as the face or chin, he may use a syringe to harvest fat for grafting and sculpting. Tumescence is an infusion of sterile saline administered before surgery to plump the fat cells and enable your surgeon to distinguish between the fat layer and overlying soft tissue, underlying muscles and organs. The saline is combined with lidocaine, in an appropriate balance, to ensure your comfort during and after the procedure. Recovery is brief – normally a weekend.
Today there are refined techniques, innovative technology and defined standards.
When performed by an experienced Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon and Board-Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon with a honed aesthetic sense and excellent surgical skills – the results can be fabulous!

No. This technique ensures your comfort throughout the procedure. This is done by an infusion of saline solution with lidocaine before your surgery.

Liposuction is not a solution for weight loss. Liposuction is ideal for patients who are near their normal weight and who want to get rid of excess pockets of fat that diet and exercise won’t eliminate.
How Long Will My Submental Liposuction Surgery Take?
It can take as little as 1 hour – but longer if you are combining it with another procedure such as a Necklift or Facelift. Your surgeon can give you a time frame during your personal consultation before surgery.
What Can I Expect After My Surgery?
Swelling, bruising, numbness are normal and to be expected – but this procedure results in much less discomfort and bruising. Scarring will occur, but your surgeon hides the incisions in inconspicuous places – so scars virtually fade and are unnoticeable over time.
Can I Drive Myself To Surgery and Home Again?
