Look Fabulous for the Holidays..Schedule Cosmetic Surgery Now

Schedule  Surgery Now … to be Ready for the Holiday’s

Our social calendars fill up quickly this time of year. Celebrating the holiday season is a fun, festive time, and you want to look great at each of these social appearances, right? If you’re considering cosmetic surgery, you’ll want to keep in mind the recovery time needed for healing. The priority is to be enjoying the holidays to the fullest and not worrying about any bruising or healing that could hold you back.

Here’s a guide on the recovery time, during which you’ll need to rest and/or take off work. It’s better to schedule a little more time than you’ll need and be pleasantly surprised if you recover faster.

Procedures that need at least…

1 week… Breast augmentation, reduction or lift, arm lift (brachioplasty), liposuction, male chest reduction (gynecomastia)           Couples are having surgery together...

2 weeks… brow/forehead lift, facelift, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)

3-4 weeks… tummy tuck, “mommy makeover,” body lift

The recovery time frame can be influenced by your health and habits. Having plastic surgery would be the perfect reason to stop smoking – at least 2 months prior to your surgery. Two weeks prior and after surgery, stop taking anything that enhances bleeding, such as aspirin, Motrin, Vitamin E and some herbs (I’ll provide a full list). You can also do some things before surgery to help recovery go smoothly and to ease your mind going in and coming out of your procedure.

BEFORE SURGERY… try to set up your household to be on autopilot, such as electronic bill paying and have lawn or pool maintenance prescheduled. Stock up on groceries, but also give yourself a break on cooking the first few days and have your favorite restaurant delivery menus handy. Ideally you’ll need to have someone stay with you, at least the first couple days post surgery. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

AFTER SURGERY

  • I know recovery isn’t fun, but think positive and surround yourself with people, music, movies, aromatherapy, etc. that will uplift your spirits.
  • Have some natural bruising recovery gel on hand, such as Arnica Montana and Bromelain…both can help reduce discoloration. Save rubbing Vitamin E on the incisions until after sutures are removed usually within 5-10 days post op.
  • Stay well hydrated (non-alcoholic beverages please) and well nourished with whole foods so your body has nutrients to repair itself. I know you’re going to want convenient and comfort foods, but try to keep greasy or processed foods to a minimum.
  • It’s perfectly fine to do a little moving around after a few days, but avoid all activities after surgery that increase your heart rate and blood pressure for 2 full weeks.
  • Allow yourself time to sleep. When your body is physically at rest it can focus more energy on repairing itself.
  • Follow instructions on caring for your dressings and drains. Call if you have any concerns.
  • Keep your follow up appointment with me (usually within a week) so that we can make sure you’re recovery is on track and I can answer any questions.

You still have time for cosmetic surgery before the holidays, but if surgery is not an option for you, then consider our non surgical options to rejuvenate your face, such as Botox, Juvederm/Voluma, Radiesse, Fat Transfer/Grafting. FACIAL AGING, INJECTABLES/FILLERS vs SURGERY…and the HOLIDAYS

Well, we’ve written tons of material about facial aging and ways to restore youthfulness. That’s because, no matter what we do we will all continue to age…some people simply put, age more gracefully and beautifully than others.

Cosmetic enhancement is all about using procedures, techniques and products to stave off the “signs” of aging or by actually removing lines and wrinkles, sagging skin and more using the right option(s). The main question the past couple of years has been: “Dr. Davison, do I need surgery or can fillers get the job done?” So let’s look at this today:        shutterstock_10125679

FILLERS/INJECTABLES vs SURGERY

First, it’s critical that your surgeon thoroughly understands the complex facial anatomy. Secondly, fillers require much knowledge also. The key is in knowing which filler(s) to use at a given time by knowing what they do and how they work. These simple guidelines remain foundational:

1)    Know when to use fillers – they are excellent to correct initial gauntness from volume loss and the right fillers can restore volume and definition while smoothing out early lines and wrinkles. They work well as long as there is no loose skin.

2)    When to choose surgery – Fillers can offer long lasting results, but if skin elasticity is poor the muscles slip and fillers cannot deal with these issues. Surgery is the right option at this stage. It can effectively deal with loose, sagging skin and reposition relaxed muscles to their more youthful positions.

While nothing replaces good genes, a good surgeon can help guide you in making the correct choices no matter what age or stage you are currently enjoying.

Men and women today, Boomers and Millennials, are choosing to have age defying cosmetic enhancements because they can, and because they want to look as good and youthful as they feel!

FALL IS HERE IN ALL ITS GLORY…and the calendars are filling up with social events for school, work, church, family etc. You can start now and breeze through a hectic season looking vibrant, radiant and healthy. In fact, it’s possible to look up to 10 years younger without surgery…and no one will know except you!

Healthy, Youthful looking hands…with fat grafting

My last blog got into some of the powerful, age defying benefits of fat grafting for hollow, aging cheeks.  This post will give you a mini crash course on why structural fat grafting is superb…to reverse aging in the hands.

FAT GRAFTING has been around for a few decades and we now understand the powerful, life changing advantages of using your own fat.  Fat Grafting, as it’s being done today, offers long term results for rejuvenating the skin, creating thicker skin and better quality skin.

AGING HANDS  become more noticeable as fat disappears, skin gets thinner and veins, joints and tendons become easily visible. Contrast this with youth between the ages of 16 to 25 years old…the hands are softer and the skin is thicker.

FILLERS versus FAT GRAFTING:  Today’s fillers are fabulous and each has its own virtue and uses in the world of anti aging aesthetics. They offer immediate results, most encourage collagen renewal, they are natural substances readily accepted by the body, they can last up to two years with maintenance and if done by an expert injector…liquid facelifts can achieve fabulous results.  FAT GRAFTING, on the other hand, is proven very effective because healthy fat contains a high quantity of mesenchymal stem cells.  These stem cells are almost exactly like those found in bone marrow.  The stem cells found in autologous fat functions to:   1) repair tissues, 2) improve blood supply to the injected area, 3) prevent and often reverse scarring.

ACTUAL RESULTS:  Fat grafting injections can achieve 100% thicker skin!

We now know these results are due to neocollagenesis.  Hence, thicker, rejuvenated skin from fat grafting injections is proven to be more important than just filling for volume replacement.  The Goal is to create an integrated layer of fat to look like the outer skin but with more fullness.  Over time, this repairs and rejuvenates the overlying skin, for years of amazing results.

FAT GRAFTING….HOW IT’S DONE   1)  Harvested fat (concentrated offers 50% more stem cells and growth factor) is carefully injected into the back of the hands to correct atrophy.  2) I position the fat between the skin, veins and tendons using special techniques to prevent vein damage and to preserve them  3) my technique cause little to no tissue disruption,  4) the fat is woven into the subcutaneous layer for longterm advantages.  5) my patients experience minimal swelling and usually no bruising.

NEW, MORE YOUTHFUL HANDS…as swelling resolves and the fat/stem cells/ growth factor settles in and grafts…wrinkles become less visible/softer, skin is visibly healthier, veins and tendons are less obvious.

BOTTOM LINE on FAT GRAFTING for REJUVENATING AGING HANDS = our own body fat contains stem cells and growth factors that is capable of repairing and rejuvenating.  Your own body fat can help you defy aging!

OK….this is when patients start getting ready for the holidays.  Mommy Makeovers,  Daddy DoOvers,  Grandma/Grandpa Anti Aging treatments…mini facelifts, injectable fillers, rejuvenating body procedures….check out my website to start dreaming then come on in and we will custom design your own program.   Http://www.davinciplastic.com.

The Consultation…Belly Bulges, Slack skin, Liposculpting…and Tummy Tuck

shutterstock_60460828

The Consultation with your surgeon is critical!

I believe it is critical because it is during the consultation that I come to fully understand my patients…their real, individual concerns, their goals and dreams and am able to tailor the right treatment plan to meet their specific needs.  Each patient is an individual…unique in every way and I do not use “cookie cutter procedures!”

Honesty, Trust and Respect evolve out of the consultation during which ….the patient speaks openly, the surgeon responds honestly and they either like each other or not.  Mutual respect and trust are critical components that must be there in order for a healthy Dr./Patient relationship to move forward.

Each patient should be educated about their options and outcomes.   Educated patients are generally happy…and feel empowered to make the right decisions.
Since aging shows up differently on each person, seeing the predicted results on their own body… really makes a difference. For this reason… my patients love the Vectra 3D computer Imaging Program because it shows you outcomes with several procedures.

OK…so now you know a little more about the consultation.  Also, Doing a thorough health history helps me rightly evaluate your aging process and enables me to show you why a certain procedure or combination of procedures would work best for you.

MORE ON TUMMY TUCKS, LIPOSUCTION…and the Truth about Crunches!

Well, it can happen to all of us…those stubborn pockets of fat in the stomach that just won’t bulge. What used to be a nice flat, firm tummy has become riddled with tiny bulges that just won’t go away…in spite of healthy diet and rigorous exercise.

The truth about crunches is that they work more on the muscles and not on the fat!  That’s why people get discouraged and line up for “liposculpting” to get the tummy they had before arriving at their current, dignified ages, or the Pre…Baby Body, or the Hot, sexy body of youthfulness…lean, mean and trim men love liposculpting as do new mommies, and “Seniors” who are aging together “more youthfully.”

LIPOSUCTION…THE GOLD STANDARD…for treating stubborn fat on and around the stomach.  I covered some of this in my last blog.  But this is important enough to repeat…to  update and encourage people who may have had an experience with Liposuction…and are leary of it today.  Here’s the “skinny” on lipo:  https://www.davinciplastic.com.

  • Lipo is the most studied method of fat removal with lots of data
  • Lipo today is safe, much more comfortable and gets terrific results
  • Patients enjoy smoother, more predictable results with my advanced lipo techniques and state of the art refined instruments
  • Liposuction is one part of the guaranteed solution for a bulging tummy…Tummy Tuck is the other part.

TUMMY TUCK…will  lift and tighten muscles, repair separations following pregnancy and/or years of weight gain and aging.  Diet is always  important and exercise is great for muscle strengthening…but only surgery can remove excess, baggy skin and repair disrupted muscles.  Tummy Tuck works….people of all ages are getting healthy and in shape again… with a Tummy Tuck.  Tummy Tuck removes the bulge that won’t otherwise budge!

New blog in a few days…new material…on age reversing treatments for 2013.  Watch for it.

Come on in and lets get you healthy and trim so you can look and feel your absolute best!

Arm Lift Restores Youthful Arms…for Beach Body Beauty! …and March is National Nutrition Month…

shutterstock_49320346

Win the war on aging with Power Lifters like this one…Arm Lift aka Brachiaplasty! Arm Lift surgery effectively removes excess loose, hanging skin between the shoulder and elbow…to sculpt the arm and restore youthful balance.

Arm Lift Surgery …aka…Brachiaplasty…is more common than ever and in the past 5-6 years has ranked as one of the most popular age reversing procedures being done.  Here are some benefits:

  • Removes excess skin and fat between the armpit and elbow
  • Improves shape and tone of the skin’s underlying support tissue
  • Restores smoother skin/contours by reshaping the upper arm
  • Achieves balance…a more proportionate look to the upper arm
  • Good Candidates are of all ages and stages in life…who want younger, more balanced looking arms!

Arm Lift Procedure...An incision is made underneath the arm and I work through it to remove excess fat and loose saggy skin, which then allows me to tighten underlying tissue, to reshape and sculpt the upper arm.  This takes from 1 to 2 hours as an out patient procedure. See more info such as frequently asked questions on Arm Lift at: https://www.davinciplastic.com.

I recommend we get started now so you can be “Beach Body Ready.”  During the “Consultation” ( I wrote about in my last blog) you will be educated about each procedure and together we will tailor the treatment plan that will effectively achieve  your goals and be suitable to your specific needs.

MARCH IS “NATIONAL NUTRITION” month.

shutterstock_92076083-1

The theme is: “Eat right, your way, everyday.”  The goal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is to educate us about developing sound eating and good physical activity habits.  As a cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon…I and hosts of AntiAging experts understand the importance of good nutrition…everyday. So…here are a few suggestions to help you eat and enjoy more fruits and vegetables…daily!

  1. Try real vegies on your pizza…e.g. broccoli, spinach, green peppers, tomato bits, mushrooms, zucchini…and more
  2. Do “smoothies” for breakfast…use strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, banana…kiwi, mango…etc.
  3. Eat “veggie Wraps” with roasted vegies and cottage or ricotta cheese.  Use a whole grain tortilla.
  4. Eat crunchy vegies instead of chips.  Use your favorite salad dressing for dipping.
  5. Grill colorful kabobs loaded with tomatoes, peppers, squash, onion or leeks, mushrooms….meat of your choice
  6. Make colorful raw salads…dark green leafy lettuces, cabbage (red and green) tomatoes, cucumbers, mushrooms, spinach leaves, apple slices, walnuts, raisins….fruits.
  7. Keep handy:  dipping, raw vegies for quick pickups.  Carrots, celery sticks, peppers sliced, radishes, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers, snap peas….your other favorites.
  8. Keep fresh fruit….pre washed and ready to grab as a snack.
  9. Stuff breakfast or dinner omelets with raw vegies (see lists above).
  10. Make fruit your dessert….apple slices with cinnamon, banana slices and yogurt, yogurt and peaches, blueberries, pineapple etc.
  11. And many more….your get creative!   Be sure to eat “living” foods everyday and reduce cooked food portions.  Living foods are uncooked, fresh from the garden.

Healthy Bodies resist aging better than unhealthy ones.  Try the ideas I’ve listed, drink lots of pure water everyday…and watch your skin start to glow…and look more youthful.

Spring is almost here.  Let’s talk about getting your body into shape…doing that FaceLift, Chin/Cheek Implants,  Butt Augmentation….or whatever you’ve been dreaming about!

I’m here to help you look and feel your absolute best!

FemGen Options…to Rejuvenate Your V Zone and Rev up Your Love Life!

shutterstock_10125679REJUVENTATING YOUR V ZONE…restores the passion to your love life! (Feminine Genital Rejuvenation) Many women are unhappy, even embarrassed with the way they look & feel sexually. But…today’s women are doing something about it besides talking. They have been enlightened and understand that Vaginal Rejuvenation involves safe, effective procedures that restore pre pregnancy/pre aging conditions and youthfulness in every area of the V Zone! No longer are women suffering in silence…wondering if they could ever restore the passions of their youth…while aging beautifully.

Senior Women and younger Women alike have been ushered into this “new era” of changed perceptions and healthy attitudes. Data informs us the over 70% of the population is less judgmental of the age defying cosmetic procedures being done today. Even the most intimate options are now accepted as more men and women experiencing changed lives! The Reasons women choose Aesthetic Vaginal Surgery aka… Designer Vaginal Rejuvenation…vary widely, but the most common are a strong desire for:

• Restored self esteem • Renewed self confidence • Enhanced sexual gratification • Renewed Aesthetic attractiveness to the V Zone

CAUSES OF UNDESIRABLE VAGINAL CHANGES Aging, genetics, hormones, and vaginal childbirth are the most common reasons for undesirable changes in the vaginal area. The vagina itself is very elastic but with age, many women…especially moms feel looser from the vaginal skin being stretched. Intimacy is affected for both partners…and often painful for the woman.

WHAT BOTHERS WOMEN Vaginal looseness from normal aging and childbirth results in an undesirable appearance, reduced sensation causing loss of sexual excitement and fulfillment, pain and discomfort during intercourse or from wearing certain clothing, exercising, bike riding and more, embarrassment from how you look…especially to your sexual partner.

EMBARRASSING APPEARANCE AND POOR FUNCTION Every woman’s vagina looks different even when normal in appearance. But the Labia Minora (thin inner lips) and the Labia Majora (thick outer lips), the Clitoral Hood and Perineum affect appearance and function as follows: 1) Contour…the shape has changed from smooth to ragged 2) Color…the colors aren’t consistent on both sides 3) Symmetry…sides are uneven and don’t look alike 4) Size…lips have thickened, elongated, can be seen through clothing when exercising, during intimate, sports, swimming etc 5) Lax Vaginal muscles, excess tissue, enlargement…Vaginoplasty corrects lax muscles/restores sexual pleasure, corrects vaginal tears, removes excess tissue, & restores a tighter, firmer vaginal opening/canal 6) Labiaplasty changes the size & shape of the Labia Minora & Labia Majora…7) Clitoral Hood Reduction…removes excess tissue to enable full sexual stimulation & gratification 8) G Spot Enhancement…increases sexual pleasure you never knew you had!

Today, the stigma is gone and there are many options for rejuvenating your V Zone! See my website for complete information on each procedure: https://www.davinciplastic.com.

We’re through March already!  Men and Women are filling surgeons suites…seeking today’s age reversing treatments…because they work.  The number of women getting FemGen rejuvenation procedures…is growing by leaps and bounds…because it restores youthfulness, appearance and function…making your love exciting again!

Call or come in…and let’s design your personal age reversing program…be “Beach Body Ready!”

Lipomatosis…nobody wants it….many people get it…one simple “squeeze technique” can remove it in 30 seconds!

LIPOMATOSIS…is the presence of multiple lipomas on the body.  Lipomas are adipose tumors….these are tumor growths filled with mature fat cells.  Lipomatosis is also referred to as: liposis or adiposis.  Whatever it is called…it simple means an abnormal localized tumor like accumulation of fat in the tissues.  Many discrete, encapsulated lipomas form on the body trunk and extremities with very few on the head.  In 1993, a genetic defect within lipomas was localized to chromosome 12q15, where the HMGIC gene encodes the high-mobility-group protein isoform 1-C.  This is one of the most commonly found mutations in solitary lipomatous tumors, while lipomas often have multiple mutations.  Other chromosomes have also been observed.

Other entities often accompanied by multiple lipomas include Proteus syndrome, Cowden syndrome and related disorders due to PTEN gene mutations, benign symmetric lipomatosis (Madelung disease), familial lipodystrophy, hibernomas and familial angiolipomatosis.  Below I outline some symptoms….because more people are presenting today with lipomas….it is important to educate on this subject.

SYMPTOMS of FAMILIAL LIPOMATOSIS (FML)…FML is a rare disorder that tends to run in families and affects both men and women.  It is hereditary and shows up as groups of fat cells in the subcutaneous tissues that begin to grow and produce multiple fatty lumps of “benign” fatty tumors (lipomas).

  • Usually appear on the abdomen, arms, thighs, neck
  • Can also appear on the face, buttocks, lower legs
  • Tend to vary widely in size…& may or may not be surrounded by connective tissue
  • May or may not be attached to the skin & nearby muscle
  • They are rubbery, moveable & ovoid to round in shape
  • Are not usually painful (unless in an irritated area)
  • Can appear singularly or in clusters
  • Typically appear during of soon after adolescence
  • Extreme cases can grow to appear grotesque & can interfere with mobility, movement & cause disfigurement

LIPOMA REMOVAL REQUIRES THE SKILLS OF A QUALIFIED SURGEON…LIPOMA cases are nearly always referred to a surgeon who is skilled and qualified in their removal.

My previous blog covered methods of Lipoma’s removal…surgical excision, endoscopic removal, liposuction and a simple “squeeze” technique I have developed that safely and effectively removes many lipomas within just seconds through a small incision.

LIPOMATOSIS….NOBODY WANTS IT…WE CAN DEAL WITH IT!  If you, a friend or loved one has been suffering with Lipomas.  Please know there is help!  Come in and let’s get your treatment plan going so you can be free again.

OK….MY NEXT BLOG WILL COVER KELOIDS….THEN WE’LL GET OFF THIS TRACK AND GET BACK INTO BEACH BODY TOPICS!

HOPE EVERYONE IS HAVING A WONDERFUL SPRING!

Steven Davison M.D.

“DAVinci….where I combine the supreme elements of art and surgical science.”

KELOIDS…require expert attention to deal with the pain, itching and physical disfigurement.

KELOIDS are a type of scar that results from an overgrowth of collagen type tissue at the site of a healed skin injury.  Keloids can be firm, rubbery lesions or shiny, fibrous nodules that vary in color….some are pink, others flesh colored or they may be red to dark brown in color.  Keloids are benign (not cancerous), are not contagious but often cause severe itching and changes in skin texture.  Severe keloids can affect movement of the skin.

Keloids are often confused with “hypertropic scars.”  They are not the same. Hypertropic scars are raised and they do NOT grow beyond the boundaries of the original wound.

Since I have specialized training and years of experience in surgery and reconstructive surgeries, I have dealt with so many patients in need of Keloid removal and scar revision…I couldn’t begin to number them.  Just know, that dealing with Keloids is serious business and you should see a surgeon with expertise in this area…in order to get desirable results.

KELOIDS…WHERE THEY OCCUR ON THE BODY...Keloids can develop anyplace where an abrasion (injury) has occurred.  They can even result from pimples, insect bites, scratching ones self, from burns or other skin trauma.  They can develop post surgery.  They most commonly occur:

  • On the central chest
  • The back & shoulders
  • On Ear lobes
  • On arms & over the collar bone after body piercings
  • From shaving…razor bumps may become keloids
  • Bottom of feet
  • Can occur at any age…but generally don’t until past age 11
  • Keloids…may be linked to hereditary tendencies

COMMON TREATMENTS FOR KELOID REMOVAL

1)  Corticosteroid injected directly into the tissue – typically 3-4 treatments spaced about 1 month apart – will reduce a raised Keloid to a flat scar and reduce redness, itching and burning.

2)  Surgical Removal is used for larger, more extensive formations.  Technique involved may employ a scalpel, electric knife or laser removal.

3) Post-Surgical Complimentary Treatments are often used to minimize Keloid recurrence after surgical removal.  These treatments include:   -silicone sheet dressings applied directly to the skin around the incision; -compression therapy the mechanically flatten the scar formation, – topical imiquimod or advanced injectables such as bleomycin,  -interferon or 5-fluorouracil.  These drugs work at the cellular level to disable the Keloid tissue formation process.

4)  Laser Excision followed by monthly intralesional steroid injections alone or in conjunction with imiquimod.

These are my treatment preferences…even though others may exist.  I stay with the tried and true…those options proven to get desirable results.

OK….last two blogs have covered skin problems….lipomas and keloids.

Next blog I’ll move back into FEMGen options….today they are no longer “taboo.”  Women are lining up to have life changing treatments that restore their confidence, youthfulness, that rev up their love lives…and restore health and well being in many cases.  Don’t suffer any longer in silence.   Women everywhere are stepping up and speaking out….the embarrassment is gone, Designer Vaginas are in and complete health and vitality for the “V Zone” is here to stay!

More on that next blog!

Stay Well.

Choosing Your Plastic Surgeon by Steven Davison M.D. ….DAVinci Plastic Surgery

shutterstock_59992843A recent study conducted for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons reported that 80% of those people surveyed said they would prefer and choose a facial plastic surgeon rather than a general surgeon or physician.  As the numbers of people who have cosmetic procedures done each year continues to grow…so does the need for education about how to recognize and choose “qualified” cosmetic/plastic surgeons.  Thus, the reason for my blog topic this time.

Stats tell us there are over 782,000 doctors in the United States but only 3.5% are really qualified to perform aesthetic (cosmetic) procedures.  So, It’s critical that before you go…you know about your doctor/surgeon.

In addition to the right education, training and experience,  Board Certification is important in helping you identify a surgeon who is truly qualified to perform your chosen procedure.  Why?  There are multitudes of doctors who are not Board Certified nor are they members of important medical organizations/associations. So here’s the “why” about being Board Certified:  Certifiying medical boards have rigorous testing/exams based upon the highest standards possible to ensure that a doctor knows, understands and is qualified to practice medicine and perform procedures within the scope of his proven abilities.  There are different boards for different areas of specialization.  The same goes for medical societies and associations that were established decades ago.  These exist to further educate, support and monitor physician/surgeon members, also to educate the population and give them a place to seek help with problems involving member physicians.  Every doctor/surgeon who chooses to become Board certified, must submit to this high standard and the rigorous oral and written exams in order to be eligible for board certification.  Board certification does not guarantee certain results but it does ensure that the surgeon is educated, well trained, skilled and qualified to perform that surgery.

Examples of Certifying Medical Boards and associations:  1) ABMS – The American Board of Medical Specialties (every doctor should apply to this board.)  2) ABPS – The American Board of Plastic Surgery (for certification in the speciality of “plastic” surgery). 3) ASAPS – The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (for plastic & cosmetic surgery of the face and body). 4) AAFPRS – American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Inc.  (World’s largest association of “facial plastic” surgeons and reconstructive surgeons)  These surgeons focus solely on plastic and reconstructive surgery of the face, head and neck. 5) American College of Surgeons, 6) The American Society of Plastic Surgeons is thousands of members strong…with only one high standard to assure you are getting a surgeon who is qualified to perform your procedure.

Do Your Due Diligence  – Surgery of any kind is a serious event and you should want the most qualified surgeon performing your procedure.  You can “google” the doctor/surgeon you are considering and check credentials, qualifications, experience, testimonials and more before making a final decision to use that physician. Surgeon’s Websites should be comprehensive including education, training, medical degree(s), fellowships, experience and qualifications.  Know before you go!  https://www.davinciplastic.com.

Cosmetic v Plastic Surgery…there is a difference.  Cosmetic surgeons have considerably less training whereas a “plastic” surgeon gets 5-7 years of specialized surgical training.  Cosmetic surgery seeks to improve the aesthetic appearance and Plastic surgery is used to improve/restore function and reconstruct after trauma or illness.  Plastic surgery can include “cosmetic” procedures also.

Ask the right questions:  1) Is the surgeon Board Certified…which boards and for how long?   2) Does he/she have hospital privileges?  3)  Is their surgical suite certified?  4)  Does the surgeon practice within the scope of their chosen field?

Look at Patient Portfolios…a picture really is worth a thousand words!

Revision surgeries are on the rise…because unqualified doctors and beauty beauty professionals are doing procedures they have no business doing! Every year, my colleagues and I see more patients desiring “revision” surgeries to undo the disappointing, disfiguring damages inflicted upon them by the hands of unqualified doctors and so called professionals.  Please trust your face and body only to a qualified plastic surgeon!

Well, this blog is a bit long….but I couldn’t leave out any of the info included.  Please read and consider.

Every Woman’s Ideal Breast…and common Myths About Breast Lifts

Every woman has her own idea of the “ideal breast.”  Many women are born with breasts that are too small and many women dream of larger, well proportioned, symmetrical, and not droopy or sagging…but sexy breasts. I have found this to be true among women of all ages and stages in life.

Today’s women consider their breasts to be their most feminine attributes and many women are choosing procedures that will create their ideal breast including breast rejuvenation for aging sagging, deflated breasts…or implants, fat grafting and breast lifts for restoring more youthful breasts, or breast reduction for overly large, too heavy breasts…or a combination of these to create their “ideal breast.”

In this blog I cover a few common breast myths with more information on the  procedure options, in future blogs.

When it comes to breast options, going bigger, smaller or lifting the breasts to a more youthful position requires correct understanding and knowledge of what these procedures entail.  There is a lot of misleading information that affects perception and can lead to poor choices.

MYTH #1…Breast Lifts are the only way to “lift” the breasts.   Breast Lifts work effectively for breast lifting if skin elasticity is good, there is a minimum of ptosis (sagging) and the nipple position will allow it.  However, implants are often chosen instead of a surgical lifting, for added volume and shape. Lifting with implants can be achieved if the right type of implant is used in the right patient.

MYTH #2…A Breast Lift achieves permanent perky breasts, elevated to a more youthful position.  Truth is: “nothing is forever.”  Aging cannot be stopped…but we offer many age defying options that can slow it down a bit…and rejuvenate  aging areas of the body.  A Breast Lift settles into position within a year after your surgery…this often appears as falling or drooping when in fact it’s just fullness being redistributed to the bottom of the breast.  As you age, your breast continues to age also and over time can become droopy again.  In the meantime, you can look years younger!

MYTH #3…Fat transfers ensure that your breasts are immune to future weight fluctuations and related breast changes.   FALSE!  Truth is:…the breasts are affected by weight gain/loss just as much as the rest of the body.  There is little you can do to avoid these changes if you are subject to weight fluctuation.  So if you plan to have a Breast Lift with or without implants or fat grafting injections, maintaining a healthy weight is the best way to prolong the wonderful, youthful results of your Breast Lift.

I have performed hundreds of Breast Lifts and by combining my honed surgical and artistic skills with todays advanced surgical science…my patients enjoy long lasting, outstanding, natural looking results.  Choose your surgeon wisely!

The next blog will cover Breast Implants.  Today’s implants are very natural, offer a host of sizes and shapes which means they can be “customized” to your personal needs and goals.  They are safe, effective and longer lasting.  Women love them!

Holidays and Christmas Wedding are coming soon.  If you’ve been thinking about an anti aging, age defying makeover, now is a great time to get it done…to look your absolute best…for now and for years to come.

BREAST AUGMENTATION…the most popular women’s procedure in the United States!

Breast Augmentation, Breast Enhancement, Mammoplasty Augmentation is a surgical procedure to increase the size and shape of the breast and can offer breast lifting benefits as well.  Breast lift today employs “breast implants” or “fat grafting” to achieve the desired size, shape, symmetry and restored youthfulness.

Many women are born with breasts that are too small, not their ideal size and shape and are not as sexy as they ideally would like.  Other women experience age related changes, changes due to hormones, genetics, childbirth, illness, disease, trauma or weight fluctuation.  Each woman, despite the reasons for the changes they experience, has a mental picture of their “ideal breast”…hence the reason so many women today are lining up for Breast Augmentation surgery.

Breast Augmentation…What Is Involved?  I do many, many Breast Augmentations with women choosing to use “implants.”  Many others prefer to augment the size, shape and contour of the breast using their own natural body fat. (Fat Grafting)  The procedures involves surgically placing the implant into a pocket created in the breast in front of the chest wall.  the incision is typically made in the crease underneath the breast, allowing for more precise placement and easy access should future revision or replacement be needed.

Implants come in a host of shapes and sizes allowing for “customizing” to your personal needs and goals.  Today’s implants are the safest ever and feel as natural as your own body tissue.

Implants are either saline or silicone…Saline implants are soft shells filled with saline (salt water).  The shell is inserted first and then slowly filled.  This requires an additional tiny incision which is well hidden also.  If the shell leaks (rarely happens today) the saline is absorbed by your body tissue.  Saline implants look quite natural but don’t feel as natural as silicone.  Silicone implants have a similar shell as saline implants, but are pre filled with silicone which is a natural earth substance.  Silicone is a cohesive gel with a strong bond that prevents the gel from migrating through the body if the implant should leak or rupture. Silicone implants feel more natural with less rippling than saline implants.

Leaking or Rupturing of breast implants rarely occurs with todays advanced implants, and they last longer than their older versions.

Incision Placement…you have options.    Here are your placement options:

  1. Inframammary, this is an incision place in the crease of the breast (underneath the breast).  Most surgeons agree this is the best placement for creating breast symmetry.  Also, should revision surgery or implant replacement be needed, this has worked well….instead of having to make a new incision.
  2. Periareolar…around the nipple is chosen by many surgeons because it heals the best and is small. Most scars with this incision placement are virtually invisible.
  3. Axillary is an incision placed in the armpit.  This is your choice if you want to be virtually scar around or on the breast.
  4. Their are advantages and disadvantages to each placement and type of implant. These should be well understood when making your decision.  I take the time to educate my patients thoroughly on these important issues and help guide them through the process.

OK, my next blog will cover Breast Reduction, another procedure chosen by men and women.  Look for it soon!

Breast Reduction Surgery…Are you too young or too old?

Naturally oversized breasts cause physical and emotional problems for women of all ages.  Breast Reduction or Mammaplasty Reduction is the only way to permanently reduce the breast size and create breasts that are more in proportion to your body.

With so many women today seeking breast reduction surgery, surgeons have come to understand the various reasons women choose to downsize and reshape their breasts.  Here are a few:

  • To make overly large, heavy breasts…smaller
  • Eliminate emotional distress, discouragement and embarrassment
  • Reduce or eliminate back & neck pain
  • Relieve shoulder discomfort caused by bra strap grooves
  • Get rid of breast crease skin irritation and rashes
  • Decrease excess, stretched skin that causes low hanging breasts
  • Resize the aereola area
  • Create a breast size in proportion with your body
  • Renew self esteem, self confidence and sexual enjoyment
  • Be able to wear and enjoy the clothing you’ve always wished you could
  • Enjoy more activities you couldn’t due to breast size and weight
  • Achieve Renewed health and beauty for life!

NEW RESEARCH SHOWS THAT BREAST REDUCTION DELIVERS “RELIEF”…Back and neck pain as well as grooves hindered activities of daily living.  After surgery, women were able to be more active, lift heavier objects and enjoy more dynamic movements…with less stress and little to no discomfort. Spinal weakness and disorders from lower back distress were improved.  Self confidence increased as did self satisfaction.

AM I TOO YOUNG FOR BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY?  This is a common question in today’s society.  Here’s my answer….There is no specific, ideal age for a Breast Reduction, but among younger women these things need to be considered:  1) Is the patient in her 20’s and experiencing the above mentioned problems.  2) Does she have a strong desire to reduce the size and shape of her overly large breasts (macromastia)?  3) Has she stopped growing in height and in breast size?  4)  Is she emotionally mature?  If the answer to these questions is yes…then she could be an ideal candidate.  You should know that when younger women have Breast Reduction surgery…Revisional surgery may be needed later in life.

AM I TOO OLD FOR BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY?… another common question women in their 60’s plus frequently ask me.  Mammaplasty Reduction is very common among more mature women and can be very effective with the correct assessment of her health, skin condition, emotional maturity etc.  Older women typically suffer with “overly large breasts” due to hormone changes from menopause and weight gain. They reap the same benefits as younger women…and today are more eager to have these age defying, health restoring procedures.

WHAT’S INVOLVED IN BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY?  This is a surgery used to remove excess fatty breast tissue and glandular tissue while removing excess skin in order to downsize and reshape the breast to be more in proportion with your body.  Note: it’s important to be at a normal or close to normal proportional weight, and be able to maintain it to avoid affecting your long term results.

OK…That said, the bottom line is: whether you choose to make a dramatic change or just reduce your bra size by a few cups, Breast Reduction Surgery offers the best results for women with large, heavy breasts. Should you ever want to increase your breast size…Implants or Fat Grafting can achieve this.

This is the time of year many men and women decide to do something for themselves.  For the Holidays, for career reasons, health issues, to improve or enhance your their life…and just because they’ve always wanted to.  If that describes you, let’s talk soon!
