Why Do People Undergo Rhinoplasty?

2 Minute Read:

When people think of nose surgery, they often think of it as a strictly cosmetic procedure. While aesthetic concerns are still the primary driving force behind rhinoplasty (as it can significantly improve the appearance of the nose and increase confidence levels), it is far from the only reason.

Rhinoplasty surgery is also performed to correct poor nasal function and fix a nose after severe injury.

What Are the Three Main Reasons Patients Undergo Nose Surgery?

1. To Improve Nasal Aesthetics

Rhinoplasty can improve the nose’s appearance, which in many cases will improve the patient’s life. Some people are born with very large or odd-shaped noses, and rhinoplasty can help to increase confidence and self-esteem.

People who have been bullied in the past due to the shape or size of their noses often report greater confidence and feelings of well-being after having rhinoplasty.

Some common aesthetic nasal concerns include:
  • Large bumps or humps
  • Wide nasal bridges
  • Crooked noses
  • Flared nostrils
  • Upturned or downturned nasal tips

2. To Improve Nasal Functionality

Rhinoplasty surgery is often used to correct poor nasal function. Many people who opt for the operation have trouble breathing through their nose (often due to a deviated septum), and making minor changes to the nose can help.

An uncorrected deviated septum can lead to:
  • Troubles sleeping
  • Heavy breathing
  • Headaches
  • Snoring
  • Sinus congestion
  • Frequent nosebleeds

3. To Correct a Severe Injury

Nose surgery can also be used to fix a nose after a severe injury. Patients who play sports or have had an accident or injury resulting in a broken nose may need rhinoplasty.

After a nose has been broken, the bones may join together, leaving a lump. Not correcting a broken nose may also cause difficulty breathing, infections, and perforations (holes) in the nasal septum.

Living with the after-effects of nasal trauma can be challenging, and rhinoplasty can help to improve the patient’s quality of life.

What Is the Difference Between Rhinoplasty and Septorhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure used to repair and reshape the external nasal structure. The surgery varies depending on the patient’s needs and can change the nasal shape and functionality.

Septorhinoplasty is a procedure that repairs/adjusts the nasal septum but does not necessarily adjust the look of the nose.

In general, rhinoplasty surgery takes longer to complete, and the patient will also have a slightly more extended recovery period than with septorhinoplasty.

If you are unsure whether you need rhinoplasty or septorhinoplasty, you can contact DAVinci Plastic Surgery to discuss your options.

Tired of Looking Tired? Learn How Can Blepharoplasty Can Rejuvenate Your Entire Face

3 Minute Read:

The eyes are said to be the windows into the soul, and they are often the first thing people will notice when looking at your face. Improving the area that surrounds your eyes with blepharoplasty can dramatically affect your appearance, making your face look younger and more symmetrical.

Close-up of beautiful young woman's face looking at camera with her hands clasped by her cheek.

What Happens When Your Eye Area Starts to Age?

Although a relatively small facial feature, the eyes hold significant importance to how you are presented to the world. Your eyes express your emotions — good or bad — and they allow others to truly see you.

Unfortunately, your beautiful eyes are impacted by the surrounding eyelid skin, which is among the thinnest on the face and prone to damage from aging, the sun, and lifestyle factors, like smoking.

With this damage comes sagging, hooded upper eyelids and dark bags beneath the eyes, similar to the look you get when you’ve had a terrible night’s sleep.

Since no one wants to look tired and stressed consistently, many turn to plastic surgery. Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids to help reverse the laxity around the eyes and eradicate the unwanted haggard appearance.

And once the eyes are rejuvenated, most patients notice an entire reawakening of their facial appearance.

What Are the Benefits of Eyelid Surgery?

Blepharoplasty improves and refreshes much more than just your eyes; it impacts your entire face and allows you to project a greater range of emotions — after all, many of your emotions are shown through your eyes.

This surgery not only allows you to physically express yourself more easily, but it can also improve your range of vision (as upper-eyelid hooding can essentially act as a blind spot) and improve facial symmetry.

Eyelid Aging and Facial Symmetry

The skin around the eyes is thin; therefore, it often shows visible aging much sooner than other areas of the face, such as the midface or lower face. This eye aging can create an unbalanced facial contour, which can draw an onlooker’s gaze to your eyes.

By choosing upper and lower blepharoplasty, you can restore a symmetrical, balanced, and younger-looking appearance. You may also find that your confidence and self-esteem improve as you feel better about your appearance after surgery.

What Does Eyelid Surgery Involve?

During a blepharoplasty procedure, Dr. Davison or Dr. Pinell will remove skin from either the above or below your eyelids. This will allow the area to be tightened, which will help improve upper eyelid hooding, lower eyelid bags, and wrinkles at the corners of the eyes.

Illustrated drawing showing what the results are like after an eyelid surgery.

Many people develop what is known as double eyelids as they age; eyelid surgery will allow you to have excess skin removed. You can also have laser treatment or an injectable neuromodulator (like BOTOX® Cosmetic) to help improve your appearance in addition to the surgery.

What Is the Recovery Time for Eyelid Surgery Like?

Recovery from blepharoplasty is likely to take a few weeks. You may find that your vision is slightly blurry after surgery, but this will pass quickly.

You will need to return to DAVinci Plastic Surgery to have the stitches removed during the first week. Ensure that you rest your eyes as much as possible for the first week by avoiding reading, watching TV, or doing close-up work.

Ready to Be Seen Again? Learn How a Facelift Can Rejuvenate Your Post-Pandemic Appearance

3 Minute Read:

We are getting to a point where many things are returning to normalcy (at least somewhat) after the coronavirus pandemic. A great summer is looming large in our collective imagination as more people get vaccinated.

Smiling woman with pulled back hair standing in front of a blue, petal-like background.

After months of being sheltered and hidden by masks, many people are rejoining the world, returning to the office, and going on weekend outings and other social activities. As a result, many are looking for a complete rejuvenation of their facial appearance as they get ready to get back into the swing of things.

For those who are thinking about getting a facelift and want the natural anonymity that comes with mask-wearing days, now is a good time to consider the procedure.

Why Does a Facelift Matter?

Over the years, the skin begins to lose elasticity, and facial tissues start to lose volume, often leaving you looking wrinkled, dull, and older. A facelift procedure effectively reduces the appearance of deep folds and wrinkles that develop around the lower half of the face and the neck by improving sagging skin in the midface and jawline.

It is the first procedure most people consider when they want to turn back the clock for a more youthful and refreshed appearance. In general, the procedure involves the removal of excess fat and tightening of the underlying facial muscles, as well as re-draping the overlying skin.

Sometimes, a facelift can be performed alone or in combination with other cosmetic facial procedures such as eyelid surgery, a brow lift, or rhinoplasty (nose surgery) for a complete facial enhancement.

Other times, volume replacement may be needed, which is achieved through fat graft injection or soft tissue fillers into the chin, cheeks, lips, or deep wrinkles.

Am I Ready for a Facelift?

Well, one might wonder if they should go for non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments instead. After all, they are less invasive and cheaper. Although these treatments give somewhat smoother and firmer skin, the results are only subtle and temporary. In fact, such treatments may fail to work on deeper wrinkles.

A facelift, on the other hand, is constantly evolving with the rise of more advanced techniques that create a more transformative, lasting, and natural-looking outcome. Most patients enjoy their beautiful results for up to 10 years or more.

Do I Have to Be a Mom to Undergo a Mommy Makeover?

2 Minute Read:

You may look at the Mommy Makeover and think it is the surgery for you. After all, it targets all the areas of the body you are looking to correct. There is only one problem: you are not a mother.

Fortunately, anyone can undergo a Mommy Makeover if they want to feel better about themselves.

Woman in black sports bra and underwear, with body contouring lines drawn on her abs and hips

Many women have used this body contouring treatment to have more than one cosmetic treatment, such as breast augmentation, breast lift surgery, breast reduction surgery, tummy tuck surgery, and liposuction to improve their body contours.

Mommy Makeovers are becoming popular among all women regardless of parental status because of their ability to address multiple cosmetic concerns.

What Can a Mommy Makeover Do for You?

Takes Care of Breast Changes

It is not only women who have had children who can experience sagging or loss in breast volume. As a result, women choose to have breast surgery as part of their Mommy Makeover to restore or add volume and fullness to the breasts and increase the perkiness of the breasts.

Alternatively, some women choose to reduce the size of their breasts to ease back, chest, or shoulder pain.

You Get a More Prominent Waistline

The Mommy Makeover can help you get a more prominent waistline by removing or tightening excess skin from the abdomen and lower back.

You may also have fat removed from these areas and the underlying muscles tightened for a tighter and more toned appearance.

Addresses Sagging Skin

If you have lost a significant amount of weight, you may have sagging skin that exercise or diet cannot resolve. Your board-certified surgeon can trim the loose skin and tighten muscles, leaving you with beautiful contours.

Effective Way to Achieve a Complete Body Makeover

The procedure also takes care of any other issues, such as fat deposits on any part of the body, including the thighs, arms, neck, or face. With the help of your plastic surgeon, you get to select the specific cosmetic procedures that will help meet your unique goals.

There is no rule on the number or types of procedures included in a Mommy Makeover.

What Should You Do When You Want to Have a Mommy Makeover?

The first step is to find an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon you can trust. Go over your concerns with your surgeon, understand how he/she will carry out the procedure, agree on a convenient date, and have realistic expectations.

You will need to take a few days (or even weeks) off to rest and heal. Make the necessary arrangements such as taking time off from work, buying enough groceries, and requesting someone to help with house chores for a few days.

What Are the Best and Worst Exercises After Your Mommy Makeover?

3 Minute Read:

Following your Mommy Makeover surgery, you want your results to be long lasting so that you can enjoy many years of renewed self-confidence.

To keep your sexier curves looking, so you need to maintain your weight through exercise and eating right. With the right maintenance, your results can last a lifetime.

Maintaining Your Mommy Makeover Results

An active and healthy lifestyle in the long term is the best way to preserve your Mommy Makeover and maintain good health.

Being active not only helps you maintain a healthy weight but also keeps your muscles strong and defined. Major weight fluctuations can impact your results, which is why it is recommended to keep up with a consistently healthy lifestyle that includes a proper diet and a regular workout routine.

But like any major surgery, your body needs some time to recover before your start to exercise.

What Happens if I Start Exercising Too Soon?

Working out too soon after surgery can lead to injuries, infections, and other complications that can diminish your results (by separating incisions) or lead you back to the operating room. Therefore, it is important to wait until you are fully recovered, and your doctor has cleared you to exercise.

Even with clearance, introduce your body to the appropriate exercises in a gradual manner without pushing yourself too hard.

No strenuous exercise (of any kind) is permitted for at least six weeks.

After this point, lower body exercises are recommended. So, bodyweight squats, lunges, walking, and light cardio are good choices. Just make sure to avoid any exercises that involve the upper body area or bouncing-type motions until you have fully recovered (if you have undergone breast procedures like breast augmentation).

As the old saying goes, walk before you can run. That way, you will build endurance while keeping your enhanced contour looking fit and toned.

Best Exercises to Consider When Fully Healed

To keep your entire body in good shape, consider aerobic exercises that stretch your entire body. Set aside time to do some walking, running, biking, or jogging daily to keep those extra calories off and keep your body lean.

You will also need to focus on area-specific exercises that include:

Tummy Strengthening Exercises

If you had your abdominal muscles repaired along with your tummy tuck, core exercises can help strengthen the muscles.

For instance, planks and crunches are a good way to work your midsection.

Crunches place a lot of tension on your healing abdomen. Be sure to check with your plastic surgeon before starting any sit-up routine.

Breast Tightening Exercises

To keep your breast firm and lifted, you will need to develop the muscles underneath your breasts.

Exercising your chest muscles through pectoral exercises such as chest press, dumbbell bench press, dumbbell chest fly, or push-ups can develop your muscles and maximize your chest appearance over time.

Which Procedures Should I Undergo as a Part of My Mommy Makeover?

3 Minute Read:

Many women wish to undergo a Mommy Makeover after childbirth to regain their pre-pregnancy body and feel like themselves again. Since the surgery is a combination of various procedures, it is important to determine which procedures will benefit you the most.

Mother walking along the beach with her children.

It is expected that the specifics of the surgery will change depending on a patient’s needs. While some mothers want to get rid of their bulging belly or eliminate excess skin, others want to enhance the shape and volume of their sagging breasts.

What Are the Most Common Mommy Makeover Procedures?

Both pregnancy and childbirth have a significant impact on a woman’s body, so a Mommy Makeover tends to include breast enhancement and a range of body contouring procedures. Individuals can also choose to have additional procedures to address their unique concerns.

Remember, the goal is to create a youthful, more toned appearance, so individuals can look and feel their best in every aspect. Having multiple procedures performed in a single session allows a patient to enhance different areas of the body with a single recovery.

The most common procedures to consider as part of your Mommy Makeover include:

Breast Augmentation

It is common for breasts to droop and lose much of their overall volume and firmness, especially after breastfeeding. As part of your Mommy Makeover, your surgeon may recommend breast augmentation with implants to restore volume and shape and create the more attractive cleavage women desire.

Breast Lift

A lift focuses more on trimming away the excess skin and tightening the underlying breast tissue to address the effects of sagging breasts.

Tummy Tuck

A Mommy Makeover can include tummy tuck surgery to tighten the stretched-out abdominal muscles and remove excess skin for a firmer and smoother midsection.

Liposuction’s purpose is to slim a specific area, such as your arms, thighs, abdomen, buttocks, etc., by eliminating unwanted fat and improving body proportion.

Fat Transfer

Those undergoing liposuction may also benefit from fat transfer by enhancing other areas of the body that lack volume.

Vaginal Rejuvenation

Vaginal rejuvenation may include labiaplasty (reduction of the labia minora) and monsplasty (fat and skin reduction of the mons pubis) to improve the aesthetics of the vulva region.

Increasingly, women are also including non-surgical treatments in their Mommy Makeover treatment plan. This approach can still achieve significant improvements when performed on the right patients.

When it comes to recovery, no two individuals are the same. Generally, the more the procedures, the longer your recovery will be, with the most extensive procedure dictating how long it will take to fully recover.

How Do I Tell Which Procedures Work Best for My Situation?

The best way to determine which procedures will be most beneficial is to schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon for an assessment of your problem areas. We will work together to create a surgical plan that takes your unique goals into account for the best outcome.

Am I Too Old to Have My Ears Pinned?

3 Minute Read:

For men, women, and children with large or overly prominent ears, everyday life can feel frustrating, especially if they are victims of cruel taunting and bullying by their peers. Fortunately, otoplasty (ear pinning) can offer a relatively simple solution to the problems associated with the size, shape, and prominence of the ears.

Doctor touching a woman's ear that they are about to pin back.

The ear pinning surgery is commonly performed on children of ages six to 14. By the time a child is six, the ears are almost the size they will be as adults. That means they are ideal candidates for the procedure.

While there are significant benefits to otoplasty as a child (children tend to heal well and quickly, and because they are getting the treatment at a young age, there is less opportunity for others to criticize their ear appearance), adults can also benefit.

Can I Get Otoplasty as an Adult?

Adults are often interested in the procedure for the same reasons parents seek cosmetic ear surgery for their younger children.

Perhaps your parents never explored otoplasty surgery for you and are wondering if you might be too old for the procedure. Well, it is never too late to have the ears you have always wanted.

Many adults have successful otoplasty surgeries each year, helping them gain more confidence and express themselves more freely.

What Are the Benefits of Otoplasty as an Adult?

One of the most significant benefits of getting otoplasty done as an adult is you will be more careful with the aftercare, reducing the likelihood of developing a post-operative infection. A headband-like bandage must be worn for a short time during recovery, and proper aftercare must be observed.

An adult is more diligent about post-operative care, which helps facilitate a better outcome of the procedure.

The procedure also provides a number of psychological and physical benefits for adults with abnormalities in the structure of the ear. Many adults with large, misshapen, or protruding ears spend most of their lives feeling self-conscious about their appearance, so it helps to finally get that out of the way and enjoy a life-changing transformation with increased self-confidence.

Further, an adult patient is better suited to make an informed choice and understands why they would need the surgery, instead of a young child who may have the procedure performed because it is their parent’s choice and not entirely theirs.

How Long Is My Otoplasty Recovery?

Recovery is unique for every patient, though most individuals can expect to return to work and light activity in about seven to 10 days. Full recovery can take up to six to eight weeks as the swelling subsides.

Monsplasty Vs. Labiaplasty: What Is the Difference and Who Can Benefit?

2 Minute Read:

It’s not uncommon for women to choose genital cosmetic surgery to enhance or rejuvenate their intimate area’s appearance or alleviate symptoms and feelings of extreme self-consciousness.

Childbirth, aging, trauma, genetics, or weight gain can take a cosmetic and functional toll on a woman’s genital area.

Close up image of woman's abdomen with her hands over her white underwear.

Monsplasty and labiaplasty are some of the most commonly performed procedures that seek to address a less than satisfactory genital area. It’s important to understand the difference between the two procedures since they correct different conditions.

What Is Monsplasty?

Monsplasty is a procedure designed to reduce bulging of the mons by tightening the underlying muscles and tissues. Many women with an enlarged mons pubis (the area between the lower abdomen and the pubis) find shopping for clothes very difficult due to the bulge of excess skin and fat that can show through certain types of clothing or during certain activities. The excess skin may interfere with normal vaginal function and urination as well.

What Does Monsplasty Do?

Having a monsplasty procedure performed can help you achieve a flat abdomen, leaving you with a more aesthetically pleasing contour and improved vaginal function. This is done through a small incision below the bikini through which the excess fat is suctioned and sagging skin is sculpted and tightened to enhance the pubic mound.

What Is Labiaplasty?

Infographic showing the differences between labiaplasty and monsplasty. Many women may experience enlarged inner or outer labia or develop excess labial tissue, particularly after childbirth. Large labia may interfere with regular activities like exercise or sexual intercourse or create an undesirable appearance in certain clothing choices, e.g., fitness leggings or swimsuits. This can cause discomfort as well as hygiene challenges, skin infection, and friction as a result of the protruding labia.

What Does Labiaplasty Do?

These concerns can be addressed with a labiaplasty procedure, which aims to reshape and reduce the size of the labia, making it more natural-looking and functional.

Depending on the specific needs and goals of a patient, your surgeon will use various techniques to guarantee the best possible outcome. The trim technique reduces the size of the labia minora while the wedge procedure removes a wedge of tissue from both sides of the labia, and then the remaining edges are stitched together.

What Are the Best Hairstyles for You While Recovering From Otoplasty?

3 Minute Read:

One of the many benefits of otoplasty surgery is being able to wear your hair up with confidence. Recovering from otoplasty surgery is an exciting time as you excitedly wait to show off your new ears.

Woman with long, wavy, and healthy hair covering her ears.

However, some patients may wish to conceal their ears during their recovery. Keep reading for some helpful hairstyles that you can rock as you heal.

What Is Otoplasty?

Otoplasty is the medical term for cosmetic ear surgery or ear pinning surgery. This procedure is meant to improve the contour, shape, position, or size of a person’s ear. While it’s not the most well-known plastic surgery procedure, otoplasty can help people regain their confidence and self-esteem after dealing with ear-related insecurities.

Typically, people get otoplasty because:

  • They have overly large ears
  • They have ears that protrude significantly
  • They are unhappy with the results of a previous ear surgery

What Are the Best Hairstyles While Recovering From Otoplasty?

While otoplasty offers a fresh beginning that many individuals are excited about, the patient first must recover from the procedure. Some patients may wish to conceal their ears during the recovery process.

To help, we have identified four cute hairstyles that women recovering from otoplasty can wear to cover swelling and fresh scars.

Half-Up Half-Down Updo

The beauty of the half-up half-down updo is that it gives you the best of both worlds. Half of your hair is pulled up to reveal your face, while the part that is down can be arranged to cover your ears. This hairstyle is also super quick to do, so you can opt for it even when you are in a rush.

Side Braid

A loose side braid looks chic and fits both a casual or a formal event. Not only is this look easy to pull together, but it also allows for your hair to cover the upper half of your ears. In fact, your entire ear will be covered on the side of your face that has your braid.

The Low-Low Ponytail

You can arrange a low ponytail (or a ballerina bun) where your hair still encompasses your ears. This hairstyle does envelope your face, so it’s generally recommended for women who don’t have an overly round face.

Front Bangs Updo

If you have been paying attention to fashion trends recently, you have likely noticed this look already. It’s when you take a simple updo and then pull out long pieces of hair on either side of your face. This gives you the false appearance of “bangs” and, luckily, happens to cover your ears.

What About Men Recovering From Otoplasty?

Unfortunately, it isn’t always as easy for men after otoplasty. Most men have shorter hair that doesn’t extend past the tops of the ears.

If this is the case for you, discuss when you can start wearing loose-fitting hats after your surgery with your surgeon. Any garment worn over or around the ears should be very loose (as you don’t want a constricting hat, such as a baseball cap).

If you are concerned about the appearance of your ears while recovering, consider growing your hair out prior to your otoplasty.

Give Yourself the Gift of Confidence

3 Minute Read:

It is finally the holiday season! With Christmas coming up, you may be trying to figure out what gifts to get the important people in your life, but what about yourself? You deserve to feel confident in all areas of your life. Give yourself the gift of confidence by finally undergoing the plastic surgery procedure you have always wanted. Many procedures work to correct the common insecurities among men and women.

Christmas gifts in boxes sitting under a fir tree.

Use this guide to determine which plastic surgery procedures you will benefit your confidence levels the most this Christmas.

What About Breast Augmentation?

Large, firm breasts are often considered to be a sign of femininity. Women with small breasts often feel self-conscious and unhappy with their breast size. Breast augmentation surgery uses implants to enhance the size and shape of your breasts, giving you the appearance you have always dreamed of. If your unhappiness with your breasts’ size is holding you back, breast augmentation surgery can give you the confidence to achieve anything.

What About Breast Reduction?

If you have naturally large breasts, you understand the struggles that come along with them. Women with overly large breasts often experience chronic body pain and unwanted attention. Additionally, overly large breasts can make you appear bigger in some clothing. By gifting yourself breast reduction surgery for Christmas, you can increase your quality of life by eliminating body pain and allowing yourself to feel confident in all of your favorite clothes.

What About Gynecomastia Surgery?

Gynecomastia is a medical condition where boys and men develop excess breast tissue, giving off the appearance of breasts. For men, the appearance of enlarged breasts can be embarrassing and emasculating. Gynecomastia surgery removes the excess breast tissue in men to provide a more masculine, defined chest. If you suffer from gynecomastia, you have the opportunity to increase your confidence with gynecomastia surgery.

What About Liposuction?

After losing a significant amount of weight, you may notice that the stubborn fat left on your body seems impossible to remove. Some fat is just resistant to diet and exercise, no matter how hard you try. After working hard to lose weight, the leftover fat can be discouraging. You have worked hard to lose all this weight—give yourself liposuction surgery for Christmas to help eliminate stubborn fat, contour your body, and increase your self-confidence.

What About Rhinoplasty?

The nose is directly in the middle of your face. This is frustrating for people who are insecure and unhappy with the size of their nose because there is no way to hide it. Rhinoplasty surgery can help you feel confident with your facial appearance by resizing and reshaping the nose. If you are insecure about your nose, start the new year right by giving yourself rhinoplasty surgery as a Christmas gift.

How to Properly Recover After Rhinoplasty

3 Minute Read:

The nose is the focal point of the face and is often one of the first things people notice. Rhinoplasty surgery can give patients unhappy with their nasal contour the confidence to achieve anything. However, a successful recovery is necessary to obtain ideal results.

Woman recovering from rhinoplasty while wearing bandages on her nose.

Since the nose is difficult, if not impossible, to conceal, it is important to accept that changes will need to be made; however, if you follow these five easy steps, you will be on your way to a successful rhinoplasty recovery.

1. Rest

One of the most important aspects of a successful recovery is a significant amount of rest. When you undergo plastic surgery, your body goes through a lot (even if your surgery was localized to your nose).

Your body will also use a large amount of energy to heal. It is important to relax in order to gain the energy your body needs to heal and recover properly.

Resting can mean many different things. It can mean getting extra sleep, but it can also mean taking a break from normal daily activities that require energy, such as cleaning, driving, and taking care of your kids. Think of your rhinoplasty recovery as an opportunity to catch up on some well-deserved relaxation.

2. Keep Your Head Elevated

While recovering from rhinoplasty surgery, it is crucial to rest and sleep with your head elevated. This will not only increase comfort, but it will also help minimize bruising and swelling. Elevating your head promotes circulation and reduces fluid buildup.

Unfortunately, your head may fall without you realizing it when you are sleeping. This is why it is important to prop your head up with pillows. Also, if you sleep with a partner, ask them to wake you up if they notice your head is no longer elevated.

3. Wear Your Splint and Bandages

After your surgery, your nose will be bandaged and held in place with a splint. It is important to leave the nose protected for several days. The splint will keep your cartilage and bone in place while they heal. The splint will also help you remember not to touch your nose and prevent any accidental trauma, which will negatively affect the healing process.

4. Use Ice

Icing your face after rhinoplasty surgery can help reduce swelling around the eyes and promote proper healing. It is important to apply ice several times a day, for around 20 minutes each time, for maximum effects.

5. Follow all Post-Operative Instructions

In addition to all of these tips, you will be given instructions on how to properly recover from rhinoplasty. It is important to follow all instructions given to you by your surgeon to ensure proper healing. Feel free to contact your surgeon at any time during your recovery if you have any questions or concerns.

Which Breast Reduction Incision Type Is Right for Me?

2 Minute Read:

Breast reduction is a popular procedure that reduces large breasts’ size and weight for an improved breast contour that is better proportioned to a woman’s body.

Illustration showing the various breast reduction incision types.

When it comes to breast reduction surgery, there are many different incisions options. The technique used depends on the patient’s breast anatomy, the amount of tissue to be removed, and the patient’s specific wishes and desired outcome.

What Are Your Breast Reduction Options?

The most popular breast reduction incision techniques include the donut, anchor, and lollipop.

Donut Method

As implied in the name ‘donut,’ this technique requires two concentric incisions made around the perimeter of the areola. As an added benefit, patients will only have one short scar that can somewhat be hidden by the areola’s dark skin.

The downside to this is that it offers limited access to the breast tissue. The procedure is acceptable for a minority of patients with mildly enlarged breasts.

Vertical or Lollipop Method

As for the lollipop technique, an incision is made around the edge of the areola, and another vertical incision is made from the areola down to the bottom of the breast.

Your surgeon will then remove excess tissue and fat and tighten the surrounding skin. This is a variation of the anchor method and is ideal for patients with mild to moderately large breasts. Therefore, if you have extremely large breasts, this will not be a good option as it offers less control than the anchor pattern reduction.

Many patients prefer the vertical breast reduction technique because of its less invasive approach combined with its long-lasting effects. It also offers a shorter recovery time, considering it is less invasive to the body.

Inverted-T or Anchor Method

This is one of the most common techniques, suitable for more substantial breast adjustments. An incision is made around the nipple with the second incision running vertically down from the areola and another along the crease of the breast for a distinctive T-shape pattern.

The excess breast tissue and skin is removed through the incision, and breasts are reshaped and lifted into a more aesthetically pleasing position.

The anchor method allows for a maximum degree of tissue removal, making it ideal for patients who have considerable sagging or asymmetry to correct.

The major drawback to this technique is that it produces the largest scars, so if scarring is a significant concern for you, your doctor may recommend a more preferable technique.
