BLEPHAROPLASTY (EYELIDS)
Blepharoplasty before and after photos
The eyes are usually the most colorful and engaging feature of the face – they create uniqueness and depth – or they convey a tired – aging appearance.
Eyelids can be rejuvenated to eliminate heavy upper lids and/or excess bulging fat and skin beneath the lower eyelid. Dr. Davison uses advanced techniques to restore a more youthful appearance to the eyes, and when combined with other age-erasing procedures, the results are amazing. Blepharoplasty is surgery of the upper and lower eyelids and can be performed on both upper and lower lids at the same time or just one of them. Often Liposuction is part of the procedure to effectively remove excess fat found in the saggy bags beneath the lower eyelids. Ethnic eyelid surgery is very common today, but it involves a different technique used by skilled, experienced surgeons such as Dr. Davison. The Skin Pinch eyelid surgery is a more conservative technique that is well suited to younger patients.
Whatever your age – or concerns – Dr. Davison has vast experience and artistic skills that enable him to achieve consistently natural looking results.

If you are concerned with any or all of the items listed above, you are in otherwise good health and you have realistic goals and expectations – you could be a perfect candidate for Dr. Davison’s Eyelid Surgery. This will be determined during your personal consultation with him. Many times Dr. Davison recommends a FaceLift or Laser Resurfacing in conjunction with your Eyelid Surgery – and/or Eyebrow Lift to correct descending brows. Excess upper eyelid skin can descend downward covering the eyes to create a vision problem. Eyelid surgery can correct this by removing that redundant skin. During your personal consultation, Dr.Davison will do a complete assessment, discuss your best options and tailor a treatment plan that will achieve your goals safely and effectively.
The initial consultation with your surgeon is critical! It should always be face to face with your surgeon during which time he/she listens closely to your concerns. Dr. Davison believes this time spent with you is critical to both you and to him. It is during the consultation that he comes to fully understand your concerns, evaluates them correctly and is then able to make the recommendations and develop the treatment plan that is right for you. Dr. Davison invests the time to talk to you face-to-face.
There are several options for eyelid surgery and Dr. Davison uses his specialized advanced techniques for each one. Here is a brief overview of each procedure:
1) Upper Lid Blepharoplasty is performed to remove excess skin and fat and restore the eyelid to a more youthful position and natural look. Sometimes a “levator”is used to help open the eyelids wider while great care is taken to avoid excessive skin removal and eyelid closing problems.
2) Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty addresses that bulge beneath the lower eyelid. Excess fat, skin and looseness are corrected. Dr. Davison uses a variety of advanced techniques – all performed under magnification – along with a gentle no touch technique – to safely and effectively address your issues. He also does “fat redraping” to fill out grooves around your eyes. This eliminates those unwanted wrinkles in the eye area.
3) Asian Eyelids lack a crease and have extra skin or epicanthal web towards the side of the nose. Dr. Davison has much experience and expertise in creating the ideal eyelid for your subtle needs.
4) Skin/Pinch Blepharoplasty is an “eyelid tuck” involving skin only Blepharoplasty. This is ideal for the patient who desires more space for applying eye shadow and a more defined crease in the upper eyelids. This is a conservative procedure that takes about 1 hour to perform. Swelling and bruising normally resolve within 5-7 days. Dr. Davison uses general anesthesia for this surgery. The Skin Pinch Blepharoplasty achieves a modest – but natural look with the most minimal risks - while erasing a tired look and restoring a natural – younger look to the eyes.
QUESTIONS OUR PATIENTS ASK ABOUT EYELID SURGERY:
What is Blepharoplasty surgery?
Dr. Davison recommends this surgery to remove excess fat, skin and muscle from the lower and upper eyelids. This restores a more youthful, vital appearance to the eye area. Eyelid surgery is also performed to improve vision for patients with excess drooping skin of the upper-eyelids when this interferes with vision.
Is anesthesia required for blepharoplasty surgery?
Yes. Most commonly used is local anesthesia with sedation.
Where will Dr. Davison perform my Blepharoplasty Surgery?
Your surgery will be performed in a state-of-the-art surgery center, as an out-patient. This surgery center is certified and fully equipped with the most advanced technologies and is able to handle any out-patient surgery.
Will I have scars from my eyelid surgery?
Yes. You will have scars, but they are well hidden since Dr. Davison makes the incisions within the normal creases and folds of the eyelids.
Will Blepharoplasty surgery take care of lines, wrinkles, sagging brows and more?
No. Eyelid surgery corrects the eyelids only. A Browlift/Forehead lift is used to correct crow’s feet, sagging eyebrows, furrows and wrinkles.
Can Eyelid surgery get rid of the dark circles under my eyes?
No. You may notice slight improvement, but Dr.Davison recommends laser resurfacing and/or chemical peels to correct dark circles.
Will insurance pay for this surgery?
If your surgery is performed to correct cosmetic problems – insurance does not cover it. If your surgery is used to correct impaired vision caused by excess, droopy skin of the upper eyelids – your insurance may cover it.
How long will I be out of work after my eyelid surgery?
Bruising, swelling and mild discomfort are normal for a few days. If you just have this procedure done – you should be presentable and able to return to work in about 7 days. Any discoloration from bruising can be easily concealed with cosmetic, mineral make-up which actually aids in the healing process. You will need to avoid rigorous, strenuous activities for 1-2 weeks or until Dr. Davison tells you otherwise.
When will Dr. Davison remove my stitches?
Typically within 3-5 days after your eyelid surgery.
Is there any financing available for eyelid surgery?
Plastic surgery procedures can frequently be financed. Ask us about this. |
