CHOOSING A PLASTIC SURGEON
Over 1.5 million plastic surgery procedures are performed in the United States every year – with 70% being reconstructive and the demand for Cosmetic procedures on the rise - as people are waging war against aging – and are in competitive careers.
Choosing the right plastic surgeon is critical to achieving the results you want and deserve. With the rising interest in cosmetic procedures many individuals are advertising that they perform these cosmetic procedures – but they may or may not be qualified to do so. When considering any cosmetic or functional surgical procedure for the face, neck or body – it is most important to seek the expertise of a well-trained, experienced board certified plastic surgeon.
Here are some pertinent guidelines to help you make a smart decision.
Board certification ensures that a surgeon has specialized training and experience in performing the procedures you are considering. The education, training and developed skills enable the surgeon to discuss in detail the best options for you. Dr. Davison is triple board certified – which means that he has specialized training and experience in three subspecialties, and he has met and exceeded the rigorous standards set forth by each board. He is also Fellowship Trained - which means that, in addition to his med-school training and residencies, he has had several additional years of specialized surgical training and experience - for plastic surgery - facial plastic surgery - and reconstructive procedures. Dr. Davison also has extensive knowledge and expertise in treating Melanoma and Skin Cancers. He is certified by 3 boards, is a member of numerous prestigious medical societies, authored over 82 articles, several book chapters, and much more. Dr. Davison taught other surgeons for 9 years at Georgetown University Medical Center. His vast - rigorous training, years of experience and stout peer evaluation, has placed him in a special league among truly qualified surgeons.
Although your surgery may be performed in an outpatient facility or office – the surgeon you choose should have privileges to perform the procedure(s) you are considering in an accredited hospital. This validates the surgeon’s credentials and ensures he meets the high standards of these hospitals and would be able to perform procedures in those facilities if the patient so chooses.
Dr. Davison has privileges and performs surgeries in several local hospitals including- Georgetown, Sibley and Virginia Hospital – the location of the latest NBCS breast cancer center.
The consultation is critical in helping you make a well-educated decision about choosing a surgeon. The consultation is a forum for exchange of essential information that allows the surgeon get to know you and your concerns – and you learn about the surgeon and his staff. It is during the consultation that you are educated about the options available to address your concerns and help you achieve your realistic goals. It is a critical time for the surgeon to assess your concerns and personalize the right treatment plan for you. The initial consultation is about choosing what is best for the patient.
Your surgeon should invest the time to sit down and talk to you face-to-face during your consultation. Dr. Davison meets with and listens carefully to each patient – every time.
These three components are critical when choosing a plastic surgeon. The consultation is a time of building confidence, rapport and trust in this surgeon and his staff. If that doesn’t happen – you need to look for another surgeon. Dr. Davison’s mission is to earn your trust and confidence because he deserves it. He is more than well trained, highly skilled and has vast experience that ensures results that are as natural looking as possible.
