There are many alternatives today that are time-tested and proven safe and effective – such as Fat Grafts which use your own natural harvested fat to restore volume. Fat Grafts provide a natural fill to the lip with longer lasting – perhaps permanent results. Other permanent fillers such as Gortex or Silicone Tubes are also excellent choices for many patients. Temporary fillers like Restylane® and Juvederm™ are another choice that take only a few minutes to inject and can be done during your lunch time. The initial consultation with your surgeon is critical! It should always be face to face with your surgeon during which time he/she listens closely to your concerns. Dr. Davison believes this time spent with you is critical to both you and to him. It is during the consultation that he comes to fully understand your concerns, evaluates them correctly and is then able to make the recommendations and develop the surgery/treatment plan that is right for you. Dr. Davison invests the time – to sit down and talk to you face-to-face.
This is done in our office and usually takes only a few minutes to perform the injections for temporary fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm. These fillers have a “mobile nature” so they absorb into the system over a few months – but in the meantime the results are beautiful. Fat Grafts, Dermal Grafts, Gortex or Silicone Tubes are surgical procedures that involve anesthesia and a little recovery time – but offer permanent results. Fat Grafting requires harvesting your fat from areas with excess fatty deposits (a bonus for those areas) and then transplanting it into the lips/facial areas. This is done by liposuction – a gentle suctioning of fat using a cannula. The fat is treated before using for transplant. With any injection procedure you can expect some bruising and a little swelling at the injection sites. Camouflage make-up covers these areas very well while they heal over just a few days time. There is little to no discomfort with injectables as they contain lidocaine – and Fat Grafting or permanent transplants requires anesthesia or local sedation. If other surgery is done at the same time, i.e. facelift, dermal graft material is available and can provide a permanent alternative.

Dr. Davison uses fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm, your own fat or Goretex and Silicone Tubes which offer permanent results.
Are All Men and Women Good Candidates for Lip Augmentation?
Men and women who want to add or restore a more youthful, full and shapely appearance to their lips can be good candidates. You must be in good health and have realistic expectations.
Where is Lip Augmentation Performed?
Dr. Davison performs lip augmentations in his state-of-the-art office as an out-patient procedure.
Does It Require Anesthesia?
This depends upon the technique chosen for your procedure. Topical anesthetic is used for some procedures while local is used for others.
How Long Does the Procedure Take?
Temporary filler procedures usually take just a few minutes while more complex procedures require from 30 – 60 minutes or more.
Is It Painful?
The technique used determines the amount of discomfort. Injectable fillers involve less discomfort than implants such as Fat Grafts or Gortex. Any discomfort is easily managed with oral pain medication.
What’s Recovery Like?
Some bruising, swelling and discomfort is normal and to be expected. These usually resolve over a few days time.
Will Insurance Pay for Lip Augmentation?
If your lip augmentation is done for cosmetic reasons only your insurance will not cover it. If it is a procedure to correct a scar or indentation from an injury or accident, your insurance may cover your treatment.
