Calf implants or calf augmentation is a procedure to increase the size and shape of the leg calf.

Men and women decide to have calf implant surgery for varying reasons. The one common reason is that they are unhappy with the size and shape of their lower legs – specifically – the leg calf. Many people are so dissatisfied with the size and shape of their calf muscles that they avoid wearing clothing that exposes their lower legs. After realizing that no amount of exercise will significantly enlarge the calf muscles, they choose calf implant surgery. Calf implants are also used to correct deformities resulting from injury or nerve diseases that result in muscle deterioration. These deformities include Polio, club foot and spina bifida. Dr. Davison and Dr. Pinell perform and recommend calf implant surgery to those who desire it for cosmetic reasons and/or to correct imbalance and deformities resulting from disease or injury.

Calf Implant Procedure:

General anesthesia is used for this procedure and you are placed on your stomach. Your surgeon will make the incision in the crease behind the knee and work through this to create the pocket in the calf muscle, into which the implant is then carefully placed and positioned. Sutures close the incision. Recovery occurs over a 2-3 week period, during which time your leg muscles adapt to the implant, the skin stretches and walking normally gradually becomes easier. You will need to sleep with your legs elevated for the first few nights to minimize swelling. After the leg dressings are removed, you will be able to shower.
