The perpetual dynamic force of gravity and aging cause the eyebrows and forehead to descend – and excess skin to be pushed into the upper eyelid. The brow appears heavy while the eyes look sad, tired and/or angry.
Also known as a “forehead lift,” a brow lift reduces the appearance of wrinkles and creases that develop in the forehead and brow area. This procedure rejuvenates the upper one-third of the face and is often performed in combination with a facelift or eyelid lift to achieve even better results.
If you feel that the signs of aging on your forehead and upper face make you look sad, tired, angry, or older than your age, you are likely a good candidate for a brow lift. Ideally, you should not smoke or take any medications that may increase risks and complications, such as anti-inflammatory medications (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen), which can increase your risk for bleeding. Smoking greatly affects healing. Candidates should also be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about their results.
Like facelifts, not all brow lifts are alike. It is important that your surgeon understands your anatomy and realistic goals in order to create a treatment plan that is right for you. Dr. Davison is an expert in all surgeries of the head and neck, and he performs a variety of brow lift techniques to give you the results you desire.
Dr. Davison makes incisions in inconspicuous areas behind the hairline or just in front of the hairline. Dr. Davison removes excess skin and raises the eyebrows to a more attractive position before closing the incisions with sutures. Dr. Davison is also able to shorten a long forehead by placing an incision in front of the hairline.
Dr. Davison makes small incisions in the hairline and uses an endoscope or a lighted scope to lift the brow. Because these incisions are in the hairline, they are virtually undetectable.
This technique combines the advantages of both the traditional and endoscopic brow lift techniques to achieve maximum results.
The initial consultation with your surgeon is critical! It should always be face-to-face with your surgeon, during which time he or she will listen closely to your concerns. Dr. Davison believes this time spent with you is critical for both you and him. It is during your consultation that Dr. Davison comes fully to understand your concerns and evaluate them correctly. He is then able to make his recommendations and develop a surgical treatment plan that is right for you. Dr. Davison invests the time to sit down and talk to you face-to-face, which is critical for helping you achieve the best possible results.
Dr. Davison performs brow lift surgery on an outpatient basis in a fully licensed and accredited facility with the most advanced technology available today.
Brow lift surgery is commonly performed with local anesthesia combined with intravenous sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the patient’s health conditions and preferences.
Brow lift surgery typically takes two hours to perform. The time varies from patient to patient, depending upon the amount of correction needed and the technique(s) used.
Although some discomfort can be expected for a few days after surgery, prescribed medication will alleviate any discomfort you may feel.
Sutures are usually removed within one to two weeks after surgery.
Although there is some downtime associated with brow lift surgery, most patients return to work about a week after surgery. Your face will be bandaged, and cold compresses will aid in healing. It is best that you sleep with your head elevated to reduce swelling and bruising. You will need to refrain from strenuous activities for a few weeks until healing is complete.
Dr. Davison expertly makes the incisions in as inconspicuous locations as possible, such as the hairline of the scalp to make them well hidden and virtually unnoticeable.
In most instances, insurance will not cover your brow lift procedure. During your consultation, Dr. Davison will present you with your options for paying for your surgery.
