Cosmetic Surgery and the Lipstick Effect

The Lipstick Effect is a well known theory projecting that, in times of economic downturn, people may cut back on the bigger luxuries in life and instead splurge on the smaller ones. For example, fewer people will be going on expensive overseas vacations, but they’ll spend the money to dine at local restaurants to still enjoy a treat – and to not feel like they’re going completely without any splurge. The question is, how does this theory apply to the cosmetic surgery industry?
Cosmetic Surgery and the Lipstick Effect… While some might consider cosmetic procedures a luxury that can be foregone in times of recession, the economy today has not hindered the growth of this industry at all.  Some analysts speculate that our society has developed a “collective vanity” and that social media has given us the mentality of maintaining good looks despite the costs. Another perspective is that youthfulness is a sign of health, vitality and success. Also, Millennials understand that prevention is the key and they include cosmetic procedures in their budget as part of their routine health regimen.

Injectables and the Lipstick Effect… For those who follow the purchasing pattern of the Lipstick Effect more truly, this still doesn’t mean they forego cosmetic procedures all together. It just means they choose the less expensive anti aging treatments, especially the injectables such as Botox and fillers, such as Radiesse. Maintaining youthfulness with these anti aging tools is a necessity to hold off surgery for a few more years. This practice is actually considered saving money. A much more cost effective, non surgical way to help maintain a younger look without a full Facelift is to consider a “Filler Facelift.”

Lipstick Effect for Luxurious Lips
Another indication of the Lipstick Effect is that during tight economic times, women don’t shy away from buying skincare or a new shade of lipstick to help them feel a little indulgent. You can absolutely love the way your new shade of lipstick looks – on fuller, more sensual lips plumped up with Juvederm. This would actually be a great gift for Mother’s Day.

Let the Lipstick Effect, using Injectables, lead you to save money in the long run by maintaining a more youthful look. And don’t forget about mom! Mother’s Day is May 8. Get her a new shade of lipstick to accompany her certificate for fuller lips with Juvederm. To set it up, call 202.966.9590 now – or visit www.davinciplastic.com.

Good Bye 2015… Hello Hottest Rejuvenating Trends for 2016

Happy New Year! While breast implants and liposuction are steadily on top of the list for most requested procedures, some trendy treatments gained in popularity during 2015 and are sure to grow more in 2016. Our culture helps to shape the desires for what is considered beautiful… and technology is offering more innovative options than ever.  These are the trends to look for in 2016:

Non Surgical Fat Removal
Kybella was introduced to the mainstream in 2015 and immediately gained a momentous following. As word has spread about the benefits of Kybella, 2016 is going to be an even bigger year for this non surgical fat reducing procedure. Who wouldn’t want to melt the double chin away without having the downtime or discomfort of surgery? Less invasive procedures will continue trending in 2016 making Kybella a winner.

Injectables for Millennials
No downtime, minimal recovery injectables steadily entice millennials into the world of cosmetic treatments. Millennials are very busy with full social calendars … so making time for surgery/recovery is challenging. Millennials grew up during the dawn and dominance of social media. It’s no wonder that Facebook and Instagram spur on more and more of an image conscious population. With their image sent out to hundreds of people everyday… they, simply put, want to look good.

Millennials are including injectables, like Botox and Juvederm, in their anti aging, routine health care regimen. So, while prevention is very good, know that it is just as important to only trust your face to an experienced, knowledgeable practitioner. Injectables, if not done correctly, can give an over “done” appearance… making you look older. This overdone look, such as over filled lips or paralyzed forehead (e.g. for someone in their 20s or 30s) can cause distortion or the perception of an aged face thus defeating your goal of trying to look younger.

Rise in the FemGen Rejuvenation Trend
The sexual revolution of plastic surgery includes an increased interest in surgeries to improve aesthetics, comfort and sexual pleasure of the female genitalia. Growing in popularity is Labiaplasty, which can minimize stretched, imbalanced or interferingly large labia. This can increase comfort and pleasure during sex, as well as eliminate embarrassment or discomfort when wearing tight workout clothes or bathing suits. Commonly desired after the changes that come from aging and the childbearing years, genetics also plays a part in the appearance and function of the FemGen area. While the topic is still a sensitive one, ( to be handled with care and confidentiality), fortunately, there’s no embarrassment these days about the surgeries that can help you feel confident about what you look like “down there.”

With A steady increase in male clientele, it’s definitely safe to say that most men aren’t feeling embarrassed about getting cosmetic procedures either. They’re viewing plastic surgery and non invasive cosmetic treatments as a normal way to keep their competitive edge in the work place. The rise of Brotox means that a tired or gruff appearance can be shaped into a more pleasant, happy, rested look, and is often done in our office during a lunch break. No missed work, no major change, just a tweak to improve confidence and perception that can pay dividends in work performance, self confidence…and simply because more men today want to stay younger and healthier looking as long as possible!

These treatments can help you reach your goals for looking and feeling great about yourself during 2016. If you’d like to take advantage of any of these rejuvenation trends, schedule a consultation at www.davinciplastic.com.

Mommy Makeover- Is It Right for You?

Cosmetic surgery has become an accepted part of a healthy, youthful lifestyle regimen. Despite this, many women would have never considered it… that is, until they became a mom and experienced the body changes that even a diligent healthy lifestyle cannot fix.
We’ve all seen the magazine photos that show celebrity moms getting back their trim and toned bodies in just a few weeks. What we don’t see is that many of these images are electronically enhanced or fail to mention the surgery involved to achieve it. For example, the increasingly common practice of receiving a tummy tuck while the cesarean section is performed.

It takes time, sometimes years, for the baby fat to be worked off. Then, even when the weight comes off, some things just don’t naturally go back to being as perky as before. This is a reality that moms shouldn’t be ashamed of because they’ve sacrificed to bring precious life into the world.
Any mom will agree that it’s worth it, but these changes can still affect a woman’s confidence and satisfaction with her body image. The good news is that the “Mommy Makeover” is geared towards addressing these specific changes that come with motherhood. The Mommy Makeover, which is a combination of specialized treatments and surgical procedures, can restore and rejuvenate your body so that you look and feel good in your own skin again.

These are some of the issues that can be addressed with a Mommy Makeover:
– Sagging, deflated breasts and nipples from breastfeeding, weight gained then lost
– Abdomen pooch from torn muscles or stretched out skin that won’t go away with exercise
– Extra shapeliness to the hips, tummy and thighs from stubborn baby fat
– Discomfort or dissatisfaction with the changes to the vaginal zone after delivery
– Uneven, rough or patchy skin tone

To decide if you’re a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover, you can ask yourself these questions:
Does my post partum body affect my self image and satisfaction with myself? While your self worth shouldn’t come from your appearance, it is very understandable to desire the body you had before the changes from pregnancy and breastfeeding. There is a comfort, confidence and satisfaction in looking and feeling your best that will translate to being a better mom.
1. Am I done having children and breastfeeding? Your body will continue to change with each pregnancy and while you will still see some of the benefits of prior surgery, it’s best to wait until your “done” so that the benefits can be longer lasting.
2. Is my support system in place to help me care for my child/ren while I recover from surgery? Moms try to do it all and bear the burden of many physically and emotional tasks on a daily basis. It is crucial, for a successful recovery, to have help with those daily tasks and with the kids or you will risk disturbing your results and possibly serious injury.

Skin Cancers…Sun Facts

With summer close, it’s time to think about extra Sun Protection. In previous blogs I’ve told you about the cancers the Suns’ UV rays can cause. First, know that skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States (500,000+ per year), and that more than 90% of skin cancer is caused by the sun’s UV rays. Melanoma and Non-Melanoma’s are the most common types, but they are highly curable if treated early. We all are at risk…but some of us more so than others. Read On!

You could be at higher risk for skin cancer if any or all of the following applies to you:
• You have lighter natural skin color
• IF there’s Family and/or Personal history of skin cancer
• You have daily Sun exposure through work and play
• You have a history of early life sunburns
• Skin that burns, freckles, reddens easily, or becomes painful in the sun
• You have Blue or green eyes & Blonde or red hair and/or…
• Certain types & a large number of moles
• Some prescription drugs cause more susceptibility to UV rays

The three common names for skin cancer are: Basal Cell Carcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma, and Malignant Melanoma.

For now, just know that if you develop symptoms such as a small, shiny lump, a spot or mole that is red and firm, or a sore/spot that bleeds and becomes crusty – and won’t heal…. you need to get checked out immediately. (see www.davinciplasticsurgery.com for complete info)

OK – Here’s a review on “Summer Sun Protection” –
HATS – DON’T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT ONE
SUN GLASSES – CRITICAL FOR EYE PROTECTION
SUN PROTECTION GARMENTS/PRODUCTS (like used in water sports)
SUNBLOCKS – they work optimally when used with the rest of these!

Lovely Lips for Valentine’s Day Lovers

Lovely Lips for Lovers on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is just 2 weeks away and if you’d like to get those luscious lips in time for your hot date, then now is the time to act. Not only will your lips be so kissable, they’ll also help rejuvenate your whole face.

PLUSH POUT CUTS THOSE YEARS OUT… A woman’s full lips are influential in how young other people think she is. Since collagen reduces as we age, lips normally get thinner, so this perception is a reality for most people. But with hyaluronic acid fillers, like Juvederm, you can replenish the fullness of your youthful lips or even add the volume you’ve always wanted but never had.

LADIES LOVE THEIR LIPS… It may be the prevalence of lipstick, lip gloss, lip balm, lip tint and other forms of makeup for the lips, but something about loving their lips makes ladies feel more feminine, sexy and confident. Most women’s desire isn’t for over filled duck lips of years past, but for nicely shaped, soft, naturally gorgeous red lips.  shutterstock_82164610-1

LIFESTYLE CHOICES THAT YOUR LIPS DON’T LIKE… Are you a lip purser? When you’re thinking, sipping coffee or smoking a cigarette, this puckering motion can exacerbate those fine lines around the mouth. Along with loss of collagen and elastin, this repeated action contributes to lip lines. Lip lines not only age the face dramatically, but cause the annoying “lipstick bleed” where lipstick will creep beyond your normal lip lines. Other causes of lip lines, loss of shape and lip color include:

  • Sun damage
  • Poor skin care
  • Dehydration

LIP ENHANCEMENT WITH HA FILLERS… Volume can easily be restored with hyaluronic acid (HA) injectables, e.g. Juvederm. Juvederm naturally creates fuller, plumper lips because hyaluronic acid attracts water to the area. It has a smooth texture, and is FDA approved for safety, so this is a top pick for lip contouring. Although the change isn’t permanent, it is a safe, natural way to create a perfectly plush pout that can rejuvenate the over all appearance of the face.

GETTING THE RIGHT “LOOK” FOR YOUR LIPS… Lips that look “over filled” can be stiff or bumpy and unnatural. Soft, supple, kissable lips should be in harmony with the whole face. Even small amounts of filler enhance the contours of your natural lip shape. Here are some suggested proportions for a nicely contoured lip:

  • slightly fuller center part
  • well curved Cupid’s bow
  • lower lip about twice the size of the upper lip, rather than the same size

LIPS LIKE EXPERT INJECTORS… Achieving luscious, harmonious lips are best accomplished at the hands of an expert injector. I am a board certified physician, specially trained to perform injectable filler treatments. It is crucial to understand the complex facial anatomy, know which product to use, and know how to create ideal results with fillers, such as Juvederm.

Lip enhancements are one of the most popular Valentine’s Day treatments I perform this time of year. This quick, no down time procedure can give you those luscious lips that you and your significant other will love. Visit www.davinciplastic.com to schedule your appointment today.

Youthful Holiday Glow

Get a Glowing Face for the Holidays

December Beauty Tips

Oh the holidays are a joyful time of family, friends, and being with loved ones. There are countless social gatherings and many pictures will be taken. This is the time of year you’re going to want to look your best.

Along with all the fun comes a bit of stress and fatigue. It can take its toll on your health…and on your beauty. This can show up as dark circles, puffy eyes, fine lines, wrinkles, and a dull, uneven complexion. These culprits include:

  • not enough sleep
  • too much rich food
  • more wine than usual
  • cold, dry air

Nearly everyone is affected by these factors and the extra stress put on our looks this time of year, but there are also simple ways to neutralize some of the damage.

ADD THESE STEPS IN WITH YOUR HOLIDAY FUN TO HELP PRESERVE HEALTHY, GLOWING SKIN:

1)   For every glass of wine or other beverage … drink a glass of water. Alcohol is dehydrating and can age your skin. There is no substitute for good, pure water to flush toxins and help you stay hydrated.

2)   While there’s so much more to do, stay organized and take it one day at a time. Don’t skimp on your sleep to compensate, just try to make the most of the day time. Adequate rest helps your body heal and rejuvenate.

3)   You’ll have those frustrating moments where taking some deep breaths and counting to ten will be crucial. Don’t let the stress get to you. Play calming music, use aromatherapy, and laugh it off.

4)   As hard as it will be, maintaining your exercise routine will keep your metabolism going to burn those extra calories, the sweat will help flush out the toxins, and the endorphins will help you manage your mood during stressful moments.

5)   While eating splurges are just going to happen, balance those by eating nutrient dense foods, such as raw fruits and veggies, unprocessed nuts, avocados, salads and high quality proteins. Minimize the carbs and sugar as much as possible.

6)   And don’t forget to treat yourself to an anti aging procedure and skincare products that don’t just counteract the damage done, but repair and restore your skin’s youthfulness.

QUICK TREATMENTS TO GET THAT SMOOTH, WRINKLE FREE SKIN

With all the social events and photos you’ll be in, be proactive with your skin by taking advantage of the “in and out” procedures that don’t involve recovery, but offer fairly quick results.

Injectables such Botox smooth out those forehead wrinkles. The fillers Juvederm, Radiesse or Sculptra can plump and smooth lines and even contour the face for a fullness that turns back the clock several years.

A gift certificate for these, and other procedures offered at Davinci Plastic Surgery, will be sure to elicit a glowing smile. Visit www.Davinciplastic.com for more youth enhancing gift ideas.

Best Wishes to you and your loved ones.

Soft, supple, red hot lips for Valentine’s Day

shutterstock_85425565In just a few days February 2014 will be ushered in.  February is known for it’s “sweetheart” day otherwise called Valentine’s Day.  We envision hearts, cupids, Valentine cards, Roses, special chocolate treats, dinner in a luxurious environment, handsome men and beautiful women with gorgeous red, well shaped but soft and supple lips. For many women…the well shaped, pouty, soft and supple lips are a thing of the past, but they don’t have to be.  If you start now, you can have the lips of your dreams before Valentine’s Day (February 14).  Read on as I blog about Lip enhancement and other ways to restore beautiful, youthful lips now.

AGING LIPS, VERTICAL LIP LINES and more…

Lip puckering involves pursing the lips, a motion that forces formation of vertical lines above the top lip.  Along with this, loss of collagen and elastin contributes to lines, loss of lip shape and color.  This makes you look older and allows your lipstick to bleed beyond your lips.  These are contributors also:

  • Smoking (regular/frequent lip pursing)
  • Excess sun exposure
  • Poor skin care
  • Being under hydrated

These can be easily dealt with:  exfoliate away all dry skin, moisturize regularly, quit smoking, use sunscreen, get into a regular, healthy skin care routine, and stay well hydrated with at least 64oz of pure water everyday!  However, normal aging, minus the bad habits, inflicts losses in every part of the body… lips not excluded.  To get those beautiful, youthful lips back by Valentine’s Day, I offer these “hot” options.

LIP ENHANCEMENT to restore FULLER SHAPE for GORGEOUS, YOUTHFUL, SWEETHEART LIPS

Age related loss of collagen results in lines, mouth wrinkles, less shapely and less colorful lips.  Injectable Filler Lip enhancement is today’s top fast fix to minimize those lines and restore healthy, beautiful lips instantly, without surgery. Collagen causes facial structures to deflate and sag, hence the lines show up.  Hyaluronic Acid fillers offer dramatic results.  The results are not permanent but can be easily maintained while your body learns to regenerate it’s own collagen again.

ABOUT INJECTABLE FILLERS for the LIPS

When fixing your lips – stear clear of permanent injections and silicone; even though they may be FDA approved.  Permanent fillers often results in lumps and bumps which can require surgery to correct and silicone is permanent…so if you don’t like the outcome you just have to live with it.  You want avoid overfilling (Duck Lips) and under filling also.

HA fillers like Restylane, Juvederm and Perlane can create fuller, plumper lips.  There are two types of candidates for lip enhancement using injectables:  1) needs volume, 2) needs to balance their other facial features. Your surgeon must understand the complex facial anatomy and be specially trained as an “Expert Injector.” An Expert Injectors knows the face, the products and how to match the right treatment with each individual need.  Know before you go!  See my website for more info on Lip Augmentation/Enhancement: www.davinciplastic.com.

ABOUT COLLAGEN…Collagen is the foundation of all connective skin tissue.  It supports the skin’s structure, thus it is essential for youthful looking skin.  As we age, the body produces less collagen causing the skin to thin, lose firmness and form wrinkles. Choose your foods for collagen generation:  organic celery, cucumbers, tropical fruits, green drinks, tomatoes, citrus fruits/smoothies and more are excellent in helping the body make collagen.

In today’s economy more people are seeking ways to cut costs. Bargain Injectable Treatments have been proven to not be bargains!  Please don’t bargain with your face.  More on that next blog.

Let’s talk about your lip enhancement right away.

PUT YOUR BEST FACE FORWARD…AVOID THESE WINTER SKIN MISTAKES

As seasons change so does our skin. Winter is the worst season of the year and can be very hard on the skin.  In this blog I offer a few tips to help you avoid costly mistakes in your daily skin care program, that lead to dry, flaky and red irritated skin. You can keep looking and feeling your best even during harsh winters.  shutterstock_36660592

1. Avoid licking your lips and do use lip balm.  The skin on your lips is very fragile and requires special care just like your facial skin.  Licking your lips frequently can cause them to dry out and become flaky.  Even though licking provides temporary moisture it leaves the lips drier due to evaporation into the dry winter air and heated environments. The digestive enzymes in saliva can break down the skin causing lips corners to crack and the skin to flake. Prevent damaged lips by exfoliating the dead skin away and then use a well formulated, conditioned lip balm throughout the day to keep in natural moisture.

2.  Do Use Sunscreen all year around.  Winter UVA rays are nearly as strong as summer rays.  They are responsible for changing the DNA in the skin and this causes premature lines, wrinkles and sagging. Damaging UV light is the #1 cause of premature aging skin because they interfere with skin barrier function while simultaneously preventing proper moisture levels in the skin.

3.  Use the right formula and amount of moisturizer.  Too much moisturizer is wasteful, can cause skin congestion, bumps and breakouts.  The skin, like a sponge, can only absorb so much.  Find the right formula for your skin needs, apply it daily and prevent future skin problems.

4.  Adjust your skin care regimen to your skin needs. Our bodies constantly change and so does our skin with fluctuating temperatures and conditions.  Make sure you are using the right products during each season.  For example:  you may need to switch from a foaming cleanser and creamy moisturizer, during winter months, to a gentler cleansing lotion and serum moisturizer, to avoid loss of drying the skin.  Find a good aesthetician (Nora handles this at DAVinci) to help you with your best skin care program/products. Visit my website for more info: www.davinciplastic.com.

5. Seal in your moisturizer right after cleansing your skin!  You have a one minute window after cleansing, to moisturize and prevent skin dehydration. Water acts like a magnet and attracts the water deep within your dermal layers and result in evaporation. Apply your moisturizer or serum while your skin is still damp to ensure plump, well hydrated skin.

SURVIVE THE HOLIDAY PARTIES

AVOID LETTING PARTIES RUIN YOUR DIET

This time of year is filled with parties, family gatherings and lots of food.  With a little help and a conscious effort, you can continue with a healthy, nutritious diet and keep on feeling and looking your absolute best!  shutterstock_90467752

EAT RIGHT TO SURVIVE THE HOLIDAYS

1)  Don’t skip meals.  Many people think skipping breakfast or lunch can help them “bank” calories for holiday parties.  But, this can make you crabby, tired and often result in a headache that could put a damper on your evening fun.  Plus being really hungry, we often over eat unwisely.

2)  Keep your brain fueled by eating a low calorie breakfast, mid morning snack of nuts/raisins etc and a healthy salad or sandwich on whole grain bread for lunch.

3)  Eat high fiber foods before the party to help you feel more satisfied and full. Choose low calorie vegies, a small salad, a piece of fruit or a bowl of high fiber oatmeal.

shutterstock_28933135

4)  Eat small amounts of the foods you love and take one piece of pie or cake or a cookie but not both. Fill your plate with healthy vegetables, fruits, whole grain crackers, cheese and lean meats.

5)  Don’t Hang Around the Buffet

Choose your foods and drink then move away and visit.  This causes yo to have to think about refilling your plate instead of mindlessly grazing.

6) Slow Down – Pace Yourself

Most people fill their plates then inhale their food.  It actually takes a few minutes for the brain to realize and signal the stomach that it’s getting full.  The slower you eat, the more you chew, the less you eat. This leads to improved digestion too.  Set your fork down between bites, sip some water and visit a bit before taking another bite.

7)  Drink Plenty of Water

To avoid dehydration that can feel like hunger, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.  Take regular sips of water throughout the meal also to slow down eating.  Drink a full glass of water before consuming any alcohol and in between each drink to slow down alcohol consumption.

8)  Keep Healthy Snacks at Work…To avoid over indulging on goodies brought in by co workers, keep healthy snacks handy.  Nuts, raisins, fresh fruits, carrot/celery sticks and low sugar protein bars are a good way to go.

9)  Don’t Linger at the Coffee Shop

Know what you want. Order it. Get it and get out.  Don’t give in to the donuts, cookies and other pastries in the case.  They are high calorie and loaded with sugars that add unwelcome pounds.

ENJOY YOURSELF!  Just Plan ahead by eating less, and consume high quality, high fiber foods to stay satisfied while cutting calories.  Remember, our stomachs don’t tell us when we’re hungry, our brains do.  It takes 6 to 8 hours before we experience “tummy hungry”.  This is when our body really is out of fuel and ready for food.  Most of our hunger comes from thinking about, smelling, seeing and being reminded about food.  This sets our mind on food so we are ready to eat. So, follow the tips and enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of Christmas and new Years!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOURS!

BEAUTIFUL LIPS and 6 Ways to to Glow-n-Go:  Botox, Botox and Fillers, Microdermabrasion, IPL skin resurfacing and others are top choices.  shutterstock_2966011

Everyone likes to pucker up from time to time but aging, smoking, diet, loss of collagen and elastin and more can cause those tiny vertical lines to develop across the top of your upper lip.  These lines make you look older and cause “lipstick bleed.”  Use these tips to look your best and have gorgeous lips!  See: www.davinciplastic.com.

1)   Stop smoking to eliminate the continual pursing of the lips and slow the loss of collagen around your mouth.

2)   Moisturize and Exfoliate to correct dry lips caused by the sun and environment.  Use a daily “beauty balm” that includes honey or hyaluronic acid.  Also, exfoliate the old skin weekly.

3)   Use Nude shades to complement your skin tone…darker tones amplify lines and wrinkles.

4)   Resurface the Skin.   We offer age defying, youth boosting options such as laser treatments, dermabrasion, chemical peels to eliminate those unwelcome lines and uneven skin tones

5)   Fill in Lines using Injectable Fillers for fabulous, natural looking results that smooth out and plump up the right areas for a sexy, healthy look.  Only choose a Board certified Surgeon to perform injectable facial fillers.  We are specially trained in the complex facial anatomy and know the precise doses needed to avoid overfilling and “duck lips.”

PRIMER ON INJECTABLES

shutterstock_91754579A SERIOUS LEVEL OF SKILL IS REQUIRED TO PERFORM INJECTABLE TREATMENTS and to GET BEAUTIFUL, DESIRABLE RESULTS. These are experts and are qualified to give injectable treatments:  Board Certified Plastic Surgeons; Facial Plastic Surgeons, Dermatologists or Oculoplastic Surgeons, specially trained RN’s, CRN’s or PA’s who work directly under a surgeons supervision.  The KEY WORDs to look for in their advertising is:  Specially Trained Expert Injector.   These people have specialized training, are certified in injectables of every kind and have a vast knowledge base of their best uses, the risks involved, their history and much more.

PEOPLE NOT QUALIFIED TO PERFORM INJECTABLE TREATMENTS: include aestheticians, hair stylists, cosmetologists, dentists or medical professionals who have not been specifically trained to use today’s injectables. They are not Expert Injectors.

TRUST YOUR DOCTOR’S OFFICE:  The only place you should get injectable treatments performed is in your doctor’s/surgeon’s office or Medi-Spa within that office under the physician’s direct supervision.  DO NOT GET INJECTABLES AT YOUR LOCAL SPA or SALON!  They are not qualified nor medically equipped for routine injections or for emergencies in cases of injury or health complications.  They are not required to follow medically defined sterility and health standards and they are not supervised by an on site doctor who is responsible, trained and experienced.  HTTP://www.davinciplastic.com.

INJECTABLES DO PREVENT LINES and WRINKLES and LIFT SAGGING SKIN…Today’s injectables are truly amazing and they do achieve results either instantly or gradually and subtly.

BOTOX®  is the well known “denerving agent” used to smooth out existing lines and to prevent future ones.  FDA approved in 2002, Botox works by relaxing/paralyzing the muscles in motion that create smile lines, forehead lines, parentheses between the eyes and Botox, (Botulinum Toxin Type A) has been used therapeutically since the early 1950’s for treating spasms, uncontrollable blinking and  much more and today successfully treats chronic Migraine Headaches, excessive sweating etc. and is a leader in cosmetic anti aging treatments.

HYALURONIC ACIDS:  HA is a naturally occurring body substance that declines with aging.  Similar to a sponge, HA attracts and binds to water to keep the skin hydrated and well contoured.  Hyaluronic acid fills in the spaces between collagen and elastin fibers.  Replacing it with injectable treatments means putting back into your body a substance natural to and recognized by the body…it’s accepted, works well and restores youthfulness!  Juvederm, Perlane and Restylane are top choices to replace depleted Hyaluronic Acid.

COLLAGEN BOOSTERS:  These provide long lasting results while stimulating your own collagen production.  Sculptra offers results often lasting up to 24 months and is excellent for filling in hollow cheeks, under eye hollows, nasolabial folds, thin lips and is used in combination with Restylane e.g. to create smoothness around the eye and tear troughs. WOMEN, POLITICS/BEAUTY, BREAST HEALTH, TATTOOS and LASERS

shutterstock_10125679Women in politics are constantly in the spotlight and can’t hide their appearance and cannot avoid being frequently analyzed from every angle.  Hillary Clinton is just one example of many women in politics, or the entertainment field who are under fire over their appearance and the stigma behind the idea of these women seeking anti aging cosmetic surgery/treatments for a “refreshed” looking face.  Betty Ford is one of the bold ladies  who had cosmetic surgery decades ago and discussed it for the benefit of all women.  She chose a fresh new face to go with her beautiful life!  Hillary Clinton did likewise and others have followed. Hollywood celebs such as Nicole Kidman and Jane Fonda also blazed the trail for women and they helped remove the “taboo” against age defying cosmetic procedures.

One of the arguments has been that surgery isn’t just about improving your looks,  it is also about improving your self esteem and self confidence. Removing grumpy, fatigued, stressed, sad/angry facial aging can be positively life changing.

It is today’s trend and even renowned portrait artists have found that this generation will be young not just once…but at least twice!  Jonathon Yeo has done portraits of Tiger Woods, Paris Hilton, Sarah Palin, Nicole Kidman and others, and understands that portrait painting today is much about telling the story of a contemporary generation.   Yeo learned that this quickly growing phenomenon of “looking younger” is here to stay. To equip himself for the task, he has observed several facelift surgeries to understand the muscles being pulled in different directions.  This helped him with facial interpretation.

Our advanced techniques and instruments allow us to perform facelifts today’s that are incredibly natural looking and age defying. We don’t change you. Your traits are your traits.  We simply remove some years of facial aging to restore a refreshed, more youthful look.  See all options on my website: https://www.davinciplastic.com.

Breast Reduction Surgery improves the quality of life according to a recent survey/study. The research shows that breast reduction produces both measurable physical and psychological health benefits.  The results:

  • Gains for psychological well being includes psychosocial, sexual and physical
  • Physical relief includes relieved pain in the breast, neck, back and shoulders
  • Breast reductions also led to significant improvement in sleep and ability to exercise
  • Surgical Benefits were seen within 6 weeks post surgery
  • Decreased medical costs from chronic medical complaints were also dramatic
  • Overall improved quality of life validates insurance coverage for Breast Reduction Surgery  (check with your provider)   (Study – Ohio State University, Columbus.)

A Word about Tattoos and Laser tattoo removal.  Got a tattoo you want to lose? Think about this before deciding to get a laser tattoo removal.  Recent case studies  show that laser removal of tattoos may mask melanoma due to the pigmented skin lesions.  (More on that as info becomes available.)

August is the hottest part of summer.  Remember the “fun in the sun” rules: 1) sun screen,  2) lots of pure drinking water (stay well hydrated), 3) fresh fruits for anti oxidants, 4) hats, 5) sun glasses, 6) umbrellas, 7) avoid glare from the water and 8) don’t stay out too long.  OK…have fun!

School is started, time for Mommy Makeovers to be your best self again and Daddy DoOvers to keep that competitive career edge.  Restore a healthy, more youthful appearance either subtly or dramatically…your choice!
